Keeping ants out of the catfood

Any tips? We tried putting the catfood in a dish of water but this didn't work because ginger girl likes to pick up her food, drop it next to the bowl and then eat it from there. So we ended up with soggy catfood in the water and the ants used it as a bridge.

Cat biscuits like Iams normally less appealing to ants, only put down as much food as they will eat and then pick up bowls and rinse afterwards, bit of a PITA. Are you in the U.K? Am guessing not as ants not normally much of a problem in the winter!!

No, I'm in South Africa. Our cats only get dried food. They like to "graze", eating little bits at a time rather than a whole meal.
