Is my cat some sort of exhibitionist?

She is 19 - not frail but seems to be more vocal now. She has always been a chatty cat - trills and chirrups mostly with the random silent miaow.

But now we have the low shout of "mouse" or "mom" when she is in a room we are not in. I have read this noise is what a cat will use to call her kittens.

Ok - I get this...

BUT she has now started making this noise which brings us to her and then she gets into her litter tray and does a big shit. Whilst looking at us! ( we assume she is looking at us as she has cataracts)

She is either ' into scatology' or ' going senile'

My husband has suggested we get her a glass topped coffee table....

Any ideas?

Seniorboy does this - either so that I can properly appreciate his efforts or so that I can be sure to clean the tray right away. He has become very fussy in his old age.

(Oh - and consider getting a second tray. He uses both of his and I think having only one might be a little restrictive for him these days.)

Ophie does this! She's just a baby (6.5 months) but she announces she is going for a poo... loudly... then when she has finished she miaows for us to praise her (and dispose of said poo) She is REALLY happy if we are in the loo at the same time!

I wonder if it a regression thing - a kitten is taught by mum to go in a tray. Maybe bananacat and seniorboy are having a second kitten hood ?

MKitten does a sort of proud skip and frolic accompanied by a prrrpt when he's had a good old poo.

That's possible, I suppose. It's difficult to judge, really, because he's a bonded Siamese so I'm used to being given a running commentary on eg the central heating setting weather, his nosh, the state of the Chinese economy - Oh everything, really - so all events in his day are brought to my attention and I have to respond to them.

I can only guess that with his arthritis, doing a nice poo is very satisfying to him and is worthy of comment. (Plus it kick starts me into cleaning that tray real quickly!)
