Is there such a thing as a litter tray that only a certain cat can get into?

One of my cats soils outside of the litter tray on a regular basis. I think this is because she doesn't like sharing with another cat.

No matter how many litter trays we use, as soon as we have cleaned them our neutered male cat will use each one! So then when our female cat wants to use one she doesn't want to because he's already been in!

I know you can get cat flaps that are magnetised and that only one cat can get through due to a magnet on their collar. Is there anything similar with regard to litter trays?

I'm not sure but you might be able to modify the cat chip flap you mention to fit a standard large hooded cat flap litter tray. Could be a DIY last resort.

The cat flaps I am thinking about work off the cats microchip, not a magnetised collar.

The cost of the Microchip System is $299. Shipping to the UK is approximately $90, which you would pay upon checkout. Then you would need to pay VAT and other duty fees upon receipt. I don’t know what those would be as they differ country to country.

I could not find anything else online, sorry. How about trying to buy a chip flap and make a DIY litter box?

Dh just suggested if you want to keep it easy, you could get a wooden board, cut a hole to size, fit a microchip cat flap to that then put some holes in the surrounding board and zip tie it onto an ordinary hooded cat litter tray. You would need to remove the existing flap from the tray and drill holes in it for the zip ties.

This is dh's simplest suggestion for doing it: you'll need a drill (for the holes) and a coping saw for cutting the board out. you can get these for about £15 all in , in Wickes. You will also need screwdrivers to fit the cat flap.

Your best bet is to take the board to Wickes and ask fir help choosing an appropriately deep coping saw. I' ve always found them helpful in there. Then you mark the shape on the board to cut out (measuring!), drill a hole within the shape, insert saw blade through, connect blade to saw frame, then cut out the cat flap shape. Next, follow cat flap instructions for fitting it to the board. Finally, drill holes in board and litter tray to zip tie them together securely.
