Any vet trip is always mightily stressful. Quite nervous about this one though. She's six months old and I think she's ready to be neutered - presenting her rear end to everyone under the sun, plus Snowy has actually tired to mount her, which was awful.
So, next Thursday off we go to the vets. Is there anything I need to be aware of, post op? They're keeping her Thurs night and doing the op on Friday. £42, which is v reasonable, IMO.

That's very reasonable indeed! Don't worry, she'll be fine. (And she's more than ready - we recommend neutering at four months).

You need to keep her in for a few days post-op, but there's nothing particular you need to do/know. I'd be surprised if the vet gives her a cone. We don't bother with them.

Has she been vaccinated and chipped already? Or are you doing that at the same time?

Very very reasonable - especially considering they remove everything in the UK and are keeping her in the night before.

My almost 17 week old baby is booked in tomorrow morning for 8.40, then her microchipping. I am feeling very guilty she has no idea and I don't like it . I've even got her some tuna in for coming home tomorrow night it's very cheap too my vets charge 64 with no overnight stay!

TCN - She hasn't had her jabs yet and I totally forgot to mention that on the phone! I will book her in for those at the same time if possible, but if not immediately after. She hasn't been outdoors yet.

Cozie - what do you mean, they remove everything? Do they take the whole uterus and stuff out? I thought they just clipped the tubes or something!

Queen - gosh that's quite a lot - I'm even more impressed with my vet now. I double checked that included the overnight stay and it did.

Your vets sounds very good all in tomorrow I'll be handing in 84 pounds as its 20 for her to be chipped, this is for a kitten who I'm planning on never letting out the door

Catkisser as cozie has said in the UK it s standard to remove the ovaries and uterus when neutering a cat, in certain other parts of the world just the ovaries are removed, but no where are tubes clipped as humans have shown us that this can fail at preventing pregnancy. Additional there is a condition called pyometra which is a life threatening infection of the uterus whilst it s rarer in cats than dogs it does still happen so by neutering we are removing th risk of this infection.
