Cat taken to the emergency vet

Been trying to call Samson in all night as we keep him indoors overnight. No sign of him. Tried again just over an hour ago and shook the Dreamies, instead of bounding in, he slowly walked and once inside he just plonked himself down and crawled under the armchair. Didn't even sniff his Dreamies which he usually goes mad for.

Had to move the armchair out to get to him as he wouldn't come out and we saw his breathing was laboured and he had blood on his forehead above his eye. We put a blanket over him and called the out of hours vet. DH has taken him over there now while i stay here as DS is in bed.

We don't have a clue what's happened; hit by a car maybe? DH has just phoned and Samson is in triage at the vets so hopefully we'll hear something soon. DH said he was walking ok once at the vets but has now started making an awful cry.

I'm so worried and can't stop crying. Just want my tabby beast home Sad

So very sorry Rusty. Awful for all of you. At least he managed to get back to you and you have got him to the vet as quickly as you could. Fingers crossed that they can find out what's wrong & help him. Keep us posted.

It could have been a car.

The very best of luck to him, Rusty. He's in the best place right now.

Let us know how things go.

Lots of love and hugs to you and your kitty. I hope he is ok.
A few years ago my boy was very ill, shallow breaching etc. My dh rushed him to the vets. He had an infection in his chest. It cost the best part of 5k Shock but he made it through and was fine.

Fingers crossed for your lad

RustyParker · 29/10/2014 00:24

Thank you very much timtam

It's horrible wondering how long he could have been hurt for. When he did finally come in, he came out of the kennel we've just had put outside (can't fit a cat flap so wanted the cats to have somewhere to go if we were out during the day) so I'm upset thinking he could have been on his own in there for goodness knows how long.

It's torture sitting by the phone just waiting...

A few x-posts - thank you everyone

How much Stupid??!! Glad to hear your boy is ok

DH has just called - vet reckons Samson was clipped by a car but thankfully he's ok. They don't suspect internal injuries and his gums are a good colour so not in shock. Think the laboured breathing might be due to pain so they've given him a painkiller injection (and an antibiotic). DH said Samson seems much happier and back to his usual self (he went for the vet Blush )

We're taking him into the vets in the morning for a check up but they are happy he's not in any danger. I am so relieved my little tabby beast is coming home.

Thanks for the well wishes and hand holding everyone x

Oh that's better news.

Keep us posted on his progress.

Quick update before heading to the vet.

He slept under our bed last night so we put his cat bed next to the bed alongside some crunchies and water which he did venture out for. Seems much brighter this morning, much more his normal self - he's even itching to get outside Hmm NO WAY JOSE!

They are little sods! They are poorly and act very sorry for them selves, but as soon as they feel a bit better they are up amd about!

Yes nearly 5k. He is worth it, id pay it again in a heartbeat! The vet thought the infection was from fighting- he is a useless bully. Always picking fights and never winning. As soon as he was feeling better he was driving me mad to go out. Shitting in the bath to let me know how annoyed he was at being a prisoner! So i let him out. 10 mins later i could hear a cat fight. Sure enough it was him fighting with the biggest roughest stray tom ive even seen. I marched over to him and dragged him home by the scruff of his neck.

Years later he still has not learnt. Always coming home with great big tuff of hair missing, cuts and scratches.

I have witnessed him chasing neighbours cats etc so i know he is the bully rather then getting bullied!

He sounds just like my Samson Stupid Grin I know what you mean, I would have remortgaged for the emergency vet last night if I had had to. Daft as brushes but so precious!

This afternoon he went a little quiet and withdrawn again. When we went to the vets, he reckoned whatever happened last night was probably his first traumatic "incident" so it knocked his confidence and he's getting his bearings again which sounds about right.

The vet prescribed a liquid painkiller / anti-inflamatory so he's getting that squirted on some prawns for supper! Picked up some posh cat food on the way home which he wolfed that down and has been hanging around the living room, coming over for the odd stroke but it's all very much on his terms. I just want to pick him up and cuddle smother him.

Little wotsits! What would we do without them though?!

So glad to hear that Samson's escaped serious injury

My young male cat loves to go outside for a prowl in the evenings & pretty much breaks the catflap down to get out

I know he's happy doing it but I can't settle for the night until he's in, there's always the worry that he'll be hit by a car (although the roads round here are usually very quiet at night)

Lots of strokes & prawns for Samson methinks Smile

RustyParker · 29/10/2014 22:40

Haha, the prawns have gone down rather well timtam!

I'm the same, always have to get him in overnight or I can't sleep but he does love the great outdoors unfortunately so it can be a battle. Sometimes wish I had a nice quiet indoor cat, just chilled and happy to hang out inside with us but then I guess that wouldn't be Samson.

He's now sleeping on our bed, waiting for us to go up for the night so I might get a cheeky snuggle in before he forgets to be aloof Smile
