The litter tray

3 year old cat and a new baby!! How to handle introductions etc

It has just occurred to me (the day after I'm due) that I haven't considered how I'm going to introduce Loki Cat and BabyMonkeyBear.

He is a very nosy cat and has had a good sniff of all the baby stuff now littering the living room. He's also very much a mummies boy and I'm worried he will get jealous of the new arrival.

I can keep him out of bedroom and nursery but not living room as it is the only access to the kitchen (his food and access to cat flap)

Any tips or advice will be gratefully received

The only thing I've heard about is to use a cloth or tissue to rub the cats scent glands (?) around their face and under their chin and then rub this on the baby equipment so that the cat recognises it's own smell on it.

I'd just roll with it and let him adjust as he will. Keep him from trying to sleep with the baby while the baby is still unable to turn - when the baby is very young for instance - but other than that, just go on as normal, keeping his routine the same if you can.

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping he just adjusts to baby. I think I'm panicking a bit as my brothers dog reacted very badly to my nephew.

Cats are pretty pragmatic. You shoul be fine.
