Cat went missing - when to cancel insurance & get lone girlcat a friend?

My lovely boycat went missing on 9th August & hasn't been seen since Sad I only adopted him in late April but was making great headway with him as far as stroking (he had purred for the first time shortly before he went missing!) & learning to trust humans again. I adopted him with girlcat (not related but had become friendly at the RSPCA cattery).

I've not cancelled his insurance yet but thinking maybe it's time I did - what would you do?

Also girlcat has become clingy & very vocal since he went missing & she's much less confident outside too. I'm an SAHM so at home all day but with my toddler so can't spend every minute with her. I think she needs a friend but I'm not sure what kitten/cat to choose for her? She's also getting a bit tubby because she's got no-one to play chase with anymore (I do play with her but I don't think it's enough).

Any thoughts on this? Thank you Thanks

I waited six months before cancelling insurance.

I got a cat 'free to a good home' a few weeks afterwards because I could stand not having two cats around. It eased the pain a bit, but I still miss him terribly and think about him everyday.

Thanks hiddenhome, it's so hard to know what to do for the best & hurts the heart too Sad

I think I'll leave until New Years at least (hoping for an Xmas miracle!) then look to cancelling it.

Sorry for your loss too Flowers

Loopy my cat went missing in August and I remember you mentioning this then. So sorry he's not been found Sad

Oh how sad, OP. It must be so awful not knowing what happened to the poor lad.
In order to help girlcat, I'd consider getting a new pal....as for the insurance...call me an idiot but I'd dither over cancelling it as it seems a bit final. I know that's irrational, though. Sad

So sorry Loopy it is horrible not knowing. I think I remember you posting about it on here.

I would probably wait until after Xmas too, and see if girlcat settles down to being an "only" cat. Sometimes they will not take well to a strange cat being introduced.

Thanks everyone Smile

I think I shall leave any decisions til after Xmas. Catkisser yes I think if I cancel it then I'm admitting there's little chance he'll be found Confused

timtam yes she may settle down a bit given time...it didn't help we had to put her in some crappy cattery when we went on hols in September, she became even more clingy afterwards, poor darling Sad

Meanwhile she's at the vets as she damaged her eye quite badly last night when another cat picked on her, keeping my fingers crossed that she won't lose her eye Sad

Bloody hell mate Sad Thinking of you and poor little girl cat. Is she ok?

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 24/10/2014 22:32

Where are you?

I'll have some kittens ready shortly after Christmas.

Long haired. Very pretty. Boy and two girls.

I only cancelled my insurance after two years. I felt the same that I didn't want to give up. I ended up moving house and that was when I realised I had to.

I still miss him Sad
