Please help me feed my very fat bigcat and slender littlecat

I have been to the vets today with BigCat. He is 6.5kg and the vet has recommended Royal Canin Obesity food. I dont know if this is because of the commision or if it is the best for him. I do like my vet but wanted some other opinions.

In the past we have fed him on Iams calorie controlled stuff and it did help but since we got LittleCat a year ago he just scoffs her food. I recently changed to Encore dried food as it said it was 80% meat and I thought that cutting down the cereals would be a good thing. This seems to have made bigCat's fur really flaky with lots of dry skin.

LittleCat is one and slender as a cat should be. They eat each others food and I cant see how obesity food will be good for her so would be happy to supplement but what with?

Please dont suggest feeding them seperately. It is impossible. But I would welcome so advice as I dont want my lovely BigCat getting weight related health problems.

That is really the only solution, tbh, at least for a short while.

They have free access around the house. If I try to keep one out while another is being fed then they take chunks out of the doors trying to get in.

And for some reason they will only eat in the kitchen. no other room will do.

Vets do not get 'commission' on prescription diets the practice does make profit (though very little) on pet food just like the pet shop does.

You could try these food bowls if the cats are chipped as they only open for the correct cat.

Wow. lone cat. that might be an option, albeit pricey. will show dh.

Watching with interest as this is the exact problem I am facing. LittleCat eats slowly and selectively while BigCat pushes her away in attempt to eat her food first and then his. So far I just supervise them but he still eats a lot more than she does.

could you feed the thinner cat inside a pet carrier with a small hole that only she can get through?

Hills science diet have released a new fat cat (and dog) food called Hills Metabolism. It's pricey but my fat two are dropping weight. It has, I think, an appetite suppressant in it. Maybe try that? Also I feed my skinny cat kitten food to fatten her up.

I think I will try the royal canin obesity and give little cat extra pouches to supplement. no way she will let bigcat get his hands on wet food. It is what the vet suggested and as she is a good hunter the vet seemed to think she could fend for herself
