My cat is ill...

We have a vet appointment later on today but I just wanted to check I'm doing everything right.

He is all phlegmy and snotty, has a nasty cough, and his eyes look gummy and sticky. Not interested in food, although he is drinking. He is fully vaccinated.

I've just been leaving him to sleep all day - he loves the outside, it is his favourite thing in the whole world, but hasn't asked to go out at all today. He also hasn't used his tray since he came in yesterday at about this time - is this a bad sign?

The complicating factor is that we are moving house at the end of the week, and he is booked into a cattery from tomorrow until the beginning of next week. Will the cattery accept him if he is under the weather?

I'm glad he feels better. Make sure you let him out in daylight and ideally a bit hungry. Does he come running for certain noises, eg tapping a tuna tin?

When we first moved here we stupidly let ours out in the evening in the dark. One of ours was, we think, hit by a car within an hour, she had no idea where the road was (country house). Luckily she had recoverable injuries, nothing internal, a broken tail which mended. But we were very daft to let them out in the dark.

Also might be worth checking with the vet. Flu is transmittable so are they happy that he's not contagious?

Good luck, it's a nerve wracking time!

Great, I'll make sure to send him out hungry. I could sit outside and have a cup of tea while he explores (weather permitting!).

I'm taking him to the vet on Saturday for a final check-up, so he will have had the all-clear before I let him out.
