I had to have my lovely old chap put to sleep today

I know it was the right thing to do but I am so very. very sad. I'm worried about his brother who is wandering around crying for him. Any advice on how to help him would be much appreciated

I am very sorry to hear this, had the same situation very recently. Remaining companion cat was very distressed at first, and was looking for his friend. He doesn't do that anymore. He is still more vocal nearly three months on, though vet thinks it is more age related. I am sorry about your cat, it is such a very sad day even when you know you are following advice and doing the best thing.

Meant to say we have given remaining cat lots of extra attention, and my mother, with whom he was staying very shortly after, slept beside him.

they were together for 14 years, they are rescue cats and had to be homed together. Unfortunately it was very sudden, he was taken ill this morning and I knew that I wouldn't be bringing him home from the vets. My Dd (6) is in bits too. They take hold of your heart and it is SO painful to let them go

It is very very hard. Poor old boys.

I'd see how things go with our other boy, giving him lots of attention. They often adjust to their single status pretty well.

How is DD doing? Shall you involve her in his burial/memorial? That sometimes helps.

she is very sad and said it hurt so much because he was a part of our family. We have talked about the rainbow bridge and that he had a really happy life. I was ok until I told her :(
