My wonderful cat was killed this morning

He was the softest, gentlest, silliest cat we've ever had.
He was hit by a car outside our house and died immediately. Luckily a friend was driving past later and saw him and phoned to let me know. I moved him before the dc saw him (he's now at the vets to be cremated). Dh and I are so, so sad.

I haven't told dc yet. Dd in particular is going to be distraught. She had a really special bond with him, he was 'her' cat and they adored each other. If you couldn't find one of them they'd inevitably be with the other. I just don't know how I am going to tell her and Ds Sad Sad Sad

(Name changed for this as am outing myself)

Morning Jane. When we had to have our old cat PTS the DC wanted something to remember her by so we got one of these and a little rose bush. It seemed to help them ti have something IYKWIM.

Thinking of you. x

Oh JaneZane, ours too. Hit on Thursday and put to sleep yesterday.

We too had to tell our DCs yesterday and their grief was beyond compare. Hope, with time, the pain eases but the will always be remembered. Little cats leave big wholes! Thanks

Thought are with you and your family.

Blush Did I just spell hole with a 'wh'. Oh my, this really is my first offence!

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2014 13:59

Oh Linus don't worry. No grammar pedants in The Litter Tray. So sorry to hear you have lost your beloved cat as well. Flowers

JaneZane · 03/05/2014 18:00

Oh gosh, I wasn't correcting you, I hadn't even noticed. I wrote bought instead of brought earlier though and did mentally slap my own wrist Wink

How is everyone Jane?

Thumbwitch · 03/05/2014 20:43

Oh Jane, your poor DC - how strange for them to think it was a joke and just how awful for them both when they realised it wasn't. :(
A little funeral ceremony is a good idea, I think - helps them to say goodbye properly.

My mum's cat, she was very sad not to say goodbye too but the men who brought his collar home said that she wouldn't want to see him, it wasn't nice. :(

timtam23 · 03/05/2014 20:58

Jane I had to have my cat put to sleep and cremated a few months ago, and I got the ashes back 8 days later (the cremation people called at the vet only once a week to deliver the caskets and to pick up the aniamls for cremation, so it could have been up to 2 weeks' wait if I'd just missed their day)

Sorry to hear you are all struggling with the loss of your furry boy Sad

They have not been too bad - dd climbed into bed with us for a little cuddle and a cry this morning. We have had a busy day with friends today so that has been a great distraction. There were tears from them both at bed time though and they are still sleeping in together as dd didn't want to be on her own. Mo would always sneak up to her bed for a cuddle at bedtime and I think she just isn't ready to be in there without him.

Dh has been ok and I've had a few little cries (away from dc) - our oldest cat seems his normal scatty self - he has a bit of dementia, mo's sister has been quite subdued but had lots of tickles and purrs this morning.

Sounds pathetic but I am finding it hard driving past the spot I picked him up from every time we pull into the drive. Every time I hear the cat flap go I expect it to be him, ridiculous really, need to pull myself together.

Thumbwitch - yes, I don't know why they thought we would ever joke about something so awful. We have never done and would never do something like that. I think it was just so shocking they thought it couldn't possibly be real Confused

Your post has brought me to tears. I'm so sorry, cats are so part of the family. Our boys aren't old enough to understand, but I was about 8 when our family cat died, so devastated.

Much love to all your little ones and so sorry about puss.

Much love OP . we had one of our cats knocked over. My 2 dc were heartbroken. I guess it teaches them to deal with loss but it doesn't mean it's easy. If you're near Eastbourne I know the brother tabby of our son to arrive kittens is still looking for a home!
