weaning off litter tray to use the garden

any tips to get my cat to abandon the litter tray and just go outside?
If i just take away the litter tray, will she just go outside or have accidents round the house?

(i think she is going outside a little as her litter tray is not as used as often as it once was. She is fit and well.)

Keep the tray. Diahroea isn't fun to clean up when it's in a tray. It's much worse when it's on the floor.

I'd keep the tray as well and let her go at her own pace. (And bear in mind that some cats just prefer to pee or poo (or both) inside the house, even if they go out for constitutionals.)

I put some litter on the garden and my kitty immediately got the hang of it. (Proud kitty parent of unbelievably intelligent cat, of course!)

PS - you may find that the spring digging over of any flower beds will help. (If you haven't yet sorted your garden after winter, the earth will likely be fairly compacted with a crust - no fun at all to dig in and cover up.)
