Kitten not eaten, today is the third day

Hello, I have the vets booked today for as soon as it opens for my girl cat

She's 5 months old, usually sleeps and lays around a lot but would come for cuddles and rub her head on me and purr etc and was very affectionate. The last 2 days she hasn't eaten anything and will refuse all food. She wasn't drinking either and seemed dehydrated. I gave her water in a syringe and last night she did drink a little from a water bowl and the same this morning. Today is the third day not eating.

I guess I'm writing here because I'm worried and the vet isn't open yet. She doesn't seem in pain and will let me prod and poke her and pick her up without being bothered. She did a wee but I haven't seen her poo, though she could have done one but it could have also been from boy cat.

She's just sitting on her scratching post curled up with her head down and eyes closed. Not sleeping just sitting there, she was doing the same last night. She has moved around the house as the scratching post is downstairs and litter box upstairs and I've seen her hanging around both places. I offered her tuna last night and she licked a bit of the brine stuff but didn't eat any of the tuna. Offered her different types of cat food wet and dry and all rejected. I shook the dreamies bag and she came up to me but when I offered her a dreamie she just ignored it :(

I don't know how she can have been fine a few days ago and to have changed like this with the only real symptom I can see being not eating. She's indoor only and has never been outside. I'm thinking maybe she ate something she shouldn't and it's stuck inside her? But as I said she will let me prod and poke and I would've thought if she had a blockage that would hurt her but she shows no signs of pain.

I also gave her a strong wormer (drontal) last night and 15 min after she vomited bile, no sign of worms anywhere. She vomited again this morning but I think it's because she's so hungry? It's just yellow bile. My dog does the same out of hunger if I delay feeding him for any reason

I've rambled on a bit... anyone have any suggestions or insight before it's vet time? :(

Ah well - if he has got urges, you may have your work cut out (and your eardrums in some difficulty.)

Best of luck.

I'm so glad she's home and on the mend. And Hubblez I'm not sure why you think she was kept in her carrier while she was an inpatient. She would have been in a hospital basket, which certainly isn't big, but has enough room for a small bed and litter tray and food and water. So not great, but not that bad either :)

Ah when we dropped her off they were saying how busy it was and that there was no room and the vet we saw did actually say she would have to stay in her carrier, don't know if that meant initially and she was moved afterwards or if she was in it all the time - DP was talking on the phone to them the rest of the time as he was the one going to pick her up. Also went and bought some sensitive stomach food earlier which is hopefully a bit gentler for her while she's still recovering :)

How is she doing this evening?

thecatneuterer · 13/03/2014 20:18

No, that would have been just initially. We are always short of proper pens, but we do generally manage to put cats in hospital baskets (often in corridors, sometimes stacked on top of each other, in the office, in the loo ...) but we certainly wouldn't leave one in a cat carrier for a couple of days.

Ah ok TCN, they probably told me that then I was just too busy worrying about her to take much in :(

She's still doing good and eating, she's walking around etc but still sleeping a lot but in comfy positions - as I said when I first posted the thread she has always been quite lazy since I got her and doesn't tend to play much it at all depending on the toy, she just kinda lazes around and watches the other animals having fun instead! She totally hates her medicine and pulls a face like she wants to murder me, but takes it surprisingly easily!

Boy cat still neglected (in his mind!) and grumpy, trying to keep him out of the cage as much as possible and distract with toys, he's getting a bit better at not going near girl but still will run up and push her over if he's near by, if he goes he goes back to the cage but settles down in it if I ignore him.

Girl cat also decided to jump the extra tall pet gate and open a sliding door to get into the spare front room that we use as storage, looks like she's eaten a bit of dog food as there's a hole in the side of the bag! That's also where the front door is though which isn't good when we are out and come home as she could escape and is an indoor cat (for now anyway) So going to see if DP can put a proper door on that room. She sure is a lot of work! Grin

Also her insurance is active tomorrow after the 10 day period, hurray!

Not impossible that she's starting to get some urges as well. (You need eyes in the back of your head if you have an unneutered female in heat - they would out-escape Houdini!)

I'm glad she's happier - and eating, Thank Goodness - and I wouldn't worry too much if she's a bit lazy at the moment. She must have been pretty close to death after all and she's come a long way back.

Good on her.

stinkyfluffycat · 14/03/2014 18:59

Oh very good news - she's a gorgeous cat, give her a stroke from me.

cozietoesie · 15/03/2014 12:48

How is she today, Hubblez ?

Hubblez · 15/03/2014 19:39

She's loads better she seems to be back to normal :) still on meds for another week though and I'm still wary of letting boy cat go near her. He's booked in for neutering again next Saturday so hopefully will calm down soon

Just a final update!

Boy cat is now neutered but is more hyper than ever, girl cat is back to 100% normal so they're both charging about like lunatics all day. She's still on medicine for a week and now comes to me when she sees me getting it ready because she knows she gets a dreamie afterwards Grin

so nice to see her active and happy again! She'll get spayed next month at some point but both are indoor cats anyway so no major rush with her now boy cat is done. They also both got microchipped last week. They've been to the vet 6 times this month between them, they'll be moving in there soon!
