We have Eddie the kitten arriving tomorrow, your tips and advice for settling a kitten into the household please.

We lost our beloved family cat over a year ago to illness, he was 18 :(. We all feel its the right time to have a new cat, in fact we are re-homing a new kitten who comes tomorrow.

Just wondered what your top tips and advice is for settling a kitten into the household.

Am buying the catfood that he is used to so as not to upset his tummy, have some toys for his to play with in the night if he wakes. A nice snug smallish cat bed for him to sleep on, small dishes for him to manage from etc...

Have read through very good tips thank you! We are going to keep the kitten in the kitchen as the lounge had too many hazards until its older. Yes camera charging!

I would give him a smallish covered box, something quite enclosed for him to get into but that he can still peep out of which will make him feel secure. Maybe wrap a lukewarm hot water bottle in something soft as he might miss his mum or brothers and sisters to snuggle into.

He'll need lots of sleep and keep his litter box fairly near so he can find it quickly (there are likely to be one or two accidents at first). But mainly just keep gently handling him and playing with him to build a bond and trust. He'll rule the roost in no time, ours do, we're slaves to them

I got my first Siamese kitten on a young birthday and after playing with him for an hour we were both drooping. (It was early in the morning.) On going upstairs and asking my Mom what I should 'do now' she said, sleepily and from the depths of her bed - 'Why not take him to bed?'

So I did and we were both flaked out for 6 hours. The start of a lifetime habit.

I know I know but our Ds age 8 would be.up all niight so the disapline of the kitchen more at night really is more for DS! I've got him a small cat bed but not enclosed also git a fluffy old jump of Ds to bond with.

I feel like I'm going back to baby years so excited though Ds doesn't know yet...he's a grey and white tabby, very cheeky and almost showing off when we went to see him!

Eddie is the best kitten name ever.

My kittin spent his first few weeks with us snuggled in my cleavage. Where i went, he did. At night he slept on my pillow. When i was forced to put him down and go out i shut him in my bedroom (litter tray in the en suite).

He still sleeps on my pillow sometimes now.

Ours sleep ok in the kitchen. It works out well. On the odd occasion there's been an escape or we've forgotten to shut the door properly they roam about the house causing mayhem so it's better all round for us really.

All my Siamese boys have slept with me and see the bed as their place. To the point that Exclusion From Bed is used (if absolutely needed) as a stern reminder of the rules. Very effective it is too - they can't abide Separation from The Person.

PS - the rest of the cats couldn't care less about bed. They've just chosen a place and kipped. Although the back of the laundry cupboard on top of the towels has always proved popular.
