How do I get my cat to eat wet food?

After a trip to the vets today and a diagnosis of UTI I've got to put him in a wet diet but he won't touch the stuff

I can leave chicken and fish out in the kitchen safe in the knowledge he won't touch the stuff

He will eat left over spag bol but that's the only meat I've ever seen him eat

How to I get him to eat wet food? I don't want him to starve and he is a stubborn begger

He won't starve, he will refuse long enough to give you a nervous breakdown.

Ideally get a selection of different wet foods, cereal free preferably like butchers choice, aldi tins, most pouch foods and see if he likes any of them.

Try and avoid things like whiskas or kit-e-kat, they have cereal in them which isn't great for them.

Shouldn't be a problem if you give him the right stuff. What are you offering him?

Oh - and is he young and healthy ? (Apart from the UTI.)

He's 9 months and usually fit and well

I have the aldi pouches in as that's what my other cat eats -not interested

I've offered him some white fish -not interested

Also offered him a Felix pouch -not interested

Try sheba and gourmet perle.

He won't starve, he will eat it eventually in a begrudging way. Try not to panic.

If the vet said definitely no more biscuits what else can you do?

This is the only cat I've ever met who won't eat tuna -I'm not hopeful

He's playing you. Hang tough.

cozietoesie · 27/12/2013 20:43

Sorry - put a small amount of fresh food down every so often and remove the encrusted old stuff.

I agree, just hang in there.

Stay strong and ignore that "you're starving me" look and offer wet food. He will relent.

Ooo progress

Just put him some fresh food down and he's licked the jelly!

Well that didn't take long.

It's the first thing he's had since 9am and he's usually a grazer -I'm surprised he didn't make it into the biscuit cupboard to be fair

Vet has just rung with the results of his urine tests and its full of crystals so he now has to go on a special diet -which is dry!

The irony of it.

Lucky he likes his biscuits then.

Apparently his new food is like cat crack!

He went mad for it but at £20 a bag I'm hoping he's not on it forever!

You might get it cheaper online, especially if you register on topcashback.co.co.uk.

I used to buy ours prescription food online.
