I thought cats were supposed to be nocturnal ...

But one of our cats starts looking pointedly up the stairs when he thinks it's bedtime and then is curled up on the bed, pref as close as poss to a human hot water bottle the entire night long - he doesn't get up until the morning

Anyone else have a completely diurnal cat??

Our middle-aged female, however, is pretty active at night - will only go into the back garden at night ...

My cats sleep at night -2 cats on various beds, it's lovely

cozietoesie · 11/12/2013 08:16

All of my cats, Siamese and moggie, have adapted to our routine - with the Siamese sleeping through the night in bed and the mogs sleeping through the night wherever they fancy. None of the mogs have been allowed out at night in recent years, however, because of the extra dangers for cats so that may assist. (The Siamese just like to sleep with their people at the least excuse, day or night. Seniorboy will give me hard looks/body language/a peremptory paw if I'm not cuddling down by a time he thinks reasonable.)

My cat comes home at 10:30pm, has something to eat then has a snooze on a dining room chair or dsd's bed till 11/11:30pm she then goes into her bed in the kitchen and sleeps till 7:30am. If I go into the kitchen when she's trying to sleep I get dirty looks.

teenagetantrums · 11/12/2013 15:47

mine go to bed when i do, when i say its bedtime, they run into the bathroom with me and have a drink out of the bath tap while i clean my teeth, but then get up at 4am tear round the place like lunatics and wake me begging for food.

cozietoesie · 11/12/2013 15:53

And you get up and give it to them, eh?

Knock that one on the head by readjusting their schedule and not giving in to them. (A few days of annoyance for you at one end against years of good sleep at the other.)

aoife24 · 11/12/2013 20:25

One of mine comes to bed with me and sleeps on a pillow beside me. The other comes through too a bit later. She likes to come under the duvet if it's cold and I sometimes let her to my shame.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 20:27

Sparkling Cat sleeps all night either on her bed in our room or on our bed with us. Today she has slept all day as well though. She has just surfaced for her evening poke round the garden. Smile

CremolaFirCone · 11/12/2013 20:29

Yep ours go to bed at bedtime. One between me and dh and one in a suitcase under the bed. Except in summer when they seem to like sleeping in the greenhouse. Heat seeking missiles the pair if themGrin

cozietoesie · 11/12/2013 20:35

........one in a suitcase under the bed......?

That sounds as if it had a most 'interesting' kittenhood.

Jinglebellsforthebetter · 11/12/2013 20:48

I need to get up and clean my teeth but JingleCat 3 is snuggled up against me. She has clear ideas about bedtime and is like a rather lovely fur-covered hot water bottle at this time of year...... Smile

kelper · 11/12/2013 20:53

My cat sleeps at night, as soon as one of us goes to bed she's there. She starts off cuddling us, then goes to her cat tree for a while, goes off to ds's room for a snuggle, then back to us when we show signs of waking so she can snuggle under the duvet :)

CremolaFirCone · 11/12/2013 21:06

Lol cosieGrin
She has a basket under the bed but naturally has completely dissed this and made a bed in the suitcase. It's a soft zip up carry on bag and she wriggles inside it like a cat-cave.
Blardy weirdo .
