Do these teeth cleaning liquids for their water bowls actually work?

The cat has gingivitis so I've put him on biscuits, halved his wet food and put all the loo seats down so if he drinks it has to be out of his bowl so he gets this teeth cleaner down him.

Anything else I can do? He will be going in for his dental work as soon as I can afford it.

I've never heard of it. Is is prescribed by the vet? What's it called?

Can't remember, you get it at pets at home.

It seems to be antiseptic.

Ooh Fluffy a subject close to my heart. SparklingCat had a dental two weeks ago, and I came out from the Vets armed with a bottle of green mouthwashy type stuff costing £16.50.

You add half a teaspoon to 250ml of drinking water. The water looks a bit green.

I have not seen her drink out of the bowl at all.

When I took her in they said it would be between £250 and £350 depending on what they found. I was But when I paid the bill it was £147 including the green liquid.

I have never seen her drink out of the loo, but she drinks out of puddles.

Never heard of this stuff. Not that it would work for our mog, he never drinks from water bowls (or loos). I'm assuming he must drink when he's outside but I'm not about to pour liquid in the puddles on the off chance! Still, good luck with it. Mog just had four teeth out and it cost the best part of £150. And he still dribbles.

I think you have a fighting chance of getting meds down him in food - but in water when he's an outside cat who can find other sources ? I wouldn't put any money on it at all.

I wonder if I could stick the half teaspoon of green liquid in SC's food? it doesn't seem to have a smell.

It sounds like aquadent, a green liquid for cat and dogs water bowls. Buy it offline for about £6 (sorry!!) it's not a prescription medication. Can only help, just I worry about cats not drinking enough anyway so do watch out that your cat will actually drink the stuff.

Both are more for plaque and general oral health, rather than gingivitis and gum disease but should help a bit until you can get the dental.

Again, it's more for general oral hygiene/health, but it might be worth getting some Logic toothpaste!stuff. I feed the cats a wee bit at bedtime (& do the occasional proper brush as well, but that's a bit of an undertaking) every night & when they had their check-up at the vet in June he was super-impressed with how healthy their teeth & gums are. They think it is a delicious treat & enthusiastically gollop it straight from the tube but you can put a smidge on their paw for them to lick off & it'll work ok so you should have less trouble with making sure FluffyCloudCat gets enough of it.

I am a bit paranoid about the cats' dental health so I've also used aquadent (& a similar product made by Petkin) & the boys were happy to drink the water.

I hope you're able to find something to help FluffyCloudCat's teeth&gums while you're saving for the dental treatment.
