Do you leave your kitten/cat alone if having a one night stay away? and if so from what age?

I have a six month old kitten, who is obviously alone at some points in the day and fine. Would you go away for one night , from about 7pm on Sat eve until about 12 on Sunday pm, if you had someone come in and feed the kitten and play for a bit on Sat eve and then in again on Sun morning to feed and play for a bit? It is our wedding anniversary and thought of going away (dc at their grandparents) and usually my ddad kitten sits but he only did it the weekend just gone as we were camping for the weekend.

I want to go away (nothing booked yet) but am reluctant to leave the kitten alone over night, kitten doesn't go out yet. What would your advice be?

I would do it - I have never heard of cat-sitting, they aren't like dogs. Usually if we are away we just get the next door neighbour in to feed the cat twice a day.

I wouldn't worry if she was older, only had old cats before but she seems so young (and I secretly like her following me around doing the checks at night, now I really sound like a nutty cat lady!

She'll be fine. Check the place for potential accidents/escapes before you leave and give her water, food and a clean tray. I've done it before. (The only concession I might make is to leave out two trays because my lot have tended to be fussy blighters.)

Thank you!, I will see how brave I am tomorrow before booking anything I thought having a baby was bad ..just kidding, it is amazing how much you worry about them!

Yes I would leave a 6 month old for that length of time but as cozie says I would check for any obvious hazards and maybe keep some of the doors shut (eg. my bedroom as have had it trashed by cats in the past!) and would also leave extra litter trays out!

Don't remind me. We are away for a week soon and the mooncats will be looked after by a neighbour. We've had them a month and are desperately trying to teach the kitten how to use the catflap. I hope the neighbour can cope with the litter tray We are planning on restricting rooms to downstairs and the hallways.

Fortunately next year it looks a lot better. Another neighbour has two young cats (~ a year) and just had them in a cattery. They were not happy when picked up! We chatted about it and now it looks like we'll have a reciprocal holiday catsitting agreement!
