What's the best age to neuter a cat?

I expect this has been asked before so I apologise in advance if this is so.
We are going to get a kitten in a few weeks time and I wondered what is the right age to get him/her (not sure which kitty will be ours yet) neutered.
And also treated for fleas and worms?

It is 15 years since I have had a kitten and I think I've forgotten what to do with them!

Hi Nina

Didn't want to see your post go unanswered. \link{http://www.fabcats.org/owners/neutering/info.html\Here's} a link to some information but other posters may have thoughts, including some of the vets who post.

Have you identified a local vet for the new arrival, yet? You'll want to discuss it with them when you register etc.

Our clinic recommends doing it (for both sexes) at five months.

Thank you. And thanks for the excellent link too, that's really helpful. There's a vet in the village who is pretty good so I'll be going there.

Sooner than you think you need to!

After four months I think is preferable, but not later than six.
