Things you do to/with your cat for yoour amusement

Yesterday the cat was asleep on my bed. I thrust a bit of chicken under her nose to wake her up.

I can't explain the look on her face, but it sincerely amused me.

Put my hands around his head and push his ears back so he looks like he hasn't got any and his face goes all thin.

Shine a torch on the floor so he chases the light but obviously there's nothing to catch

You push cats over?

DH tips cats (ours and friends', not just randoms)

I like to use a laser pen light on the floor sends them scatty.

Yes- you find a relaxed cat and push her over. It makes a lovely soft kerflumph sort of noise.

Jeremy I do that with their ears too. Or just fold them back.

I think I've written about Angry Cat's air licking before. Basically I scratch a certain point on his back and he starts licking the air (or my face if I put my face near his tonuge) He LOVES it and I think it's absolutely hilarious :)

I still don't get this pushing cats over thing...

You can do it when they are standing up too. Or when they are sitting up- -on their bottoms with their front legs straight. Honestly, try it. It's really satisfying!

Push them over. I love it Also I like pointing and laughing at my boy cat's pissed off face outside the back door as he meows to come in. It clearly pisses him off even more. Revenge for making me let him in and out every five minutes.

Folding their ears back is fun- I have one whose ears stay that way for ages.

Bordering on the brink of cruel is putting a brown paper bag on their heads to make them walk backwards. But obviously nobody on here would do that.

We have never (loosely) tied a helium balloon to our cats collar/tail, and laughed as she tried to get out the cat flap. Never. Honest.

Tipping. The folding back the ears thing. Seeing how many (small, light) objects you can put on a very relaxed and lying down cat before they stand up. Seeing how many sheets of newspaper (individual sheets, not entire copies of the Times) you put on top of a cat before they wriggle their way out.

I miss my cats . Both moved on to the Great Litter Tray in the sky .

Another good one that worked with my ditsy tortoiseshell was to fake stroke her, with my hand about an inch away from her fur. She could see my hand moving and would go through all the motions of being stroked - swimming on the floor, purring, etc. But she'd look completely confused because she couldn't feel anything.

Not that I'm obsessed with paper bags, but if you ever get one of those lovely paper carrier bags from a posh shop, put some cat treats in the bottom of it and leave it temptingly around somewhere. If you're lucky, a cat will jump in.

I love playing kill string... almost as much as cats enjoy it.
Playing the cat like a bagpipe - especially when my mother is practicing her singing.

Pretending I'm about to go into the kitchen to feed them. Many times. It's the most exercise the fat one gets.

I like to poke my finger in my cats mouths when they yawn. Their little pissed off faces

I also shake their paw when they are cleaning themselves and have it n he air.

Laser pointers as well, although have to stop for a bit as my youngest one is getting a bit scatty over it.

I used to play my childhood cat like bagpipes when she was purring. Just a gentle squeeze before the exhale. rrr rrr rrr (squeeze)RRR RRR

We also used to wear her around our necks like a fur stole. She was a very amenable cat.

Current cat is no fun at all

Lego yes I love putting my finger in their mouths.

So, the pushing over thing - when simple cat is standing up and you stroke his back, he sort of flops into the floor...is that it?! (Because I do rather like that)

Moaning my childhood cat could also be worn round the neck. And inside a zip up jumper with her head sticking out the top. She was marvellous.

I didn't do this on purpose but Rice has a stick with feathers on the end and we were playing with it on the bed. She'd caught the feathery bit and was on her back "killing it" when she rolled off the bed. I nearly wet myself laughing and then felt rather mean for laughing at her then laughed at her some more. She skulked off until I stopped laughing and came back all nonchalant like it had been another cat altogether. Which made me laugh some more.

There's no need for me to put cat treats into bags to get my cats to jump into them - they adore leaping in & out of them & "hiding" in them. Any suitable bag that enters the house is deemed to be theirs for the squirling up in & they get terribly indignant when ejected. Crosser still if you pick up the bag with them in it

I love how they behave if I make the bed with them in it (just covering with top sheet & duvet, not trapping them!) they make their way out by wriggling to the edge of the bed then launching themselves off.

I dance holding them (one at a time) & blond!cat will sometimes have a little waltz on his hind legs with me holding his front paws.

Pretending to hypnotise them's always mildly diverting, as is getting them to chase a dangly!toy in small circles.

Blond!cat likes to sit on top of my rucksack when I'm wearing it: he gets upset if he doesn't get to ride triumphantly up the stairs on it when I come home. He looks so incredibly pleased with himself that I'd not be surprised to catch him waving graciously as we got up the stairs. The cats think of the ruckie as their Sworn Nemesis because it takes me away from them for hours at a time & the sight of them slyly trying to duff it up is highly amusing, especially when they stalk it from opposite sides!

my auntys cat used to drape herself across the back of my neck - it was like having a fur stoal

we are never mean to old cqt as she us 16, but the other 2 are fair game.

big fluffy loves rolling on his back and having his tummy tickled with my foot, though not for too long otherwise he sticks his claws in my foot.

little fluffy, I can put my whole hand over her face so that her eyes are covered, and then wiggle my hand slightly. she doesn't seem to mind at all.

big fluffy washes my hand when I pull the matted bits out of his fur it's like being exfoliated!

agree with paper bags, boxes and blazer light sticks. let them catch the light then turn it off makes me howl with laughter to see their confused faces
