My sister's little cat was killed by a car today :-(

She just phoned, she is devastated. The neighbour has taken the cat in and put her in a box and DH will go and bury her tomorrow. I am not an animal person really and probably don't 'get it' but she is so very upset and I want to support her. What can we do to help? I've suggested DH buy a nice plant to plant over the grave. Anything else we can do to help?

Sad

burying her, & planting something over the grave, is a wonderful & kind idea

I don't know who/what else your sister has in her life atm but for now, if you just listen to what she needs to say - & don't say well, she can always get another one - is probably about as much as you can do

you sound like a lovely sister Thanks

Just don't say the words "it was just a cat".

Big bar of chocolate and a shoulder to cry on is best.

I think just as SecretNutellaFix allus to, don't minimise this loss - the loss of an animal can be devastating, especially if it occurs at a time in your life where things don't feel great.

Just let her talk and empathise as much as you can.

Just let her cry buckets, I've sobbed over all our past cats. My mum cried more when the cat went than when her mother died.
