The litter tray

:-(( our lovely old lady has just been diagnosed with advanced cancer

she has several large masses in her colon and her nodes and her spine :-((

she is home with me here, the vet has been amazing saying that we will do whatever it takes to make her comfortable. However he also wanted me to know that we would never regret making a reasonably early decision to say goodbye, but we may regret leaving it till she is suffering very badly.

she has been my friend for nearly 18 years... I don't know what to do...

Never, sorry you are going through this.

What do the DC know about her illness? Have you been able to explain that her body is shutting down?

Better she goes out on a high then after pointless suffering.
Sorry it's all so hard. :(

they know that she has cancer.
they know it isn't fixable
they know that she is going to die soon

they do not know that we are going to instigate the final call
nor that the vet is going to come here.. that is soemthing we are going to have to explain..

My thought is that this weekend we make it clear to them (and to use the above phrase about her body shutting down)
I am not going to tell them about the vet until Monday after school..
the vet is coming at 7pm.

They know about her accidents.

Thanks for your kindness... in know in the BIG wide world this isn't big cheese but it feels massive to us ..

It is massive. 18 years is more than massive. And it's happening to you right now and it's horrible.

I disagree completely! It IS huge. We lost our boy about 18 months ago. They are a member of the family.

She has been your companion for 18 years- that's the time of raising a child to adulthood.

Thank you for all your care ladies.
last night was very upsetting but when the vet left she spent the evening wrapped in my arms and blanket.
it was so good to be able to have that time.
this morning we have planted her under a cherry tree in the garden.

All done..
pic of her last night here

((hugs)) Never. How are the children?

I hope it's not too early to suggest but when our lovely old cat Midnight had to be put to sleep we got this to put in the garden. The children were keen to put it in Midnight's 'spot'. x

So sorry, Never. Good that you had that private time with her.

Hope you're feeling ok.

I had my old lady pts on Friday (fibrosarcoma). Your vet was right, I should have had the courage to do it sooner, so I'm glad your lady and you didn't linger. Age & disease comes to us all, it's just how we deal with it.

It will be blossom time soon. A beautiful reminder.

I planted daffodil bulbs around where I buried my fabulous cat. They are coming up nicely now.
I hope you and your family feel better soon. It is awful when they go.
