Bloody irresponsible fuckwitted pet-owners

Just need to vent. Got message from DD today, who is staying with friends in London. An old school friend of hers is trying to sell a kitten for £50. Kitten has to be re-homed 'today'. Kitten currently belongs to a family friend of school friend - they have decided they don't want it. Rather than trying to find a good home, or take it to an already overflowing shelter, they are trying to make money on it. Apparently they can't be arsed to take it to a shelter. In all likelihood, the poor kitten will end up turfed out on the streets.

DD begging me to take it. We have three cats already and I cannot introduce a fourth, nor commit to a lifetime of costs for it, much as I'd love to. DD now stroppy, I'm upset.

What the hell is wrong with people? Why don't they get their cats neutered?

Beats me.

Good luck with finding an on-home for the kitten. (Which I just know you're going to take - today at any rate - but offer them less. £50 sounds like a 'suck it and see' figure.)

Oh I know what you mean! Take a look on Gumtree and count the ads that say "selling as have no time for her" - DICKS!!!!

Can you or your daughter take it to an animal shelter? Obviously without payment for the kitten.

Sadly all too believable - kitten for Christmas I expect.

Is it within the rules to appeal on MN for someone to take the kitten in?

People like that make me so mad.

I don't even live in London anymore. Am going up by train tonight to collect DD, but can't realistically grab a kitten, take it to a shelter etc on foot.

Aaagghh. Does anyone know of a lovely, sensible family that want a tabby boy kitten in West London?

I cannot take the little thing, our existing cats would beat it up. And I'm already spending the best part of £100 a month on the three cats we have (insurance, flea treatment, worming tablets, food) - I can't afford another cat, much as I'd love to rescue it.

Ah - then you can't and that's that. There are lots of shelters in London - see catchat. It probably won't look good for the wee scrap given the numbers around but might be worth a phone call to the parents offering them rescue contacts if they get no takers for cash.

I've emailed details of shelters to the family. No response. Have also emailed a friend who loves cats, in the hope she may want him. Other than that, there's not much I can do. Just makes me so cross. This is the same family that used to have a 'friendly' pet pitbull. Police took it away and destroyed it.

WHY DID YOU BLOODY GET HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE THEN?? And WHO exactly has £600 floating around at the moment? God knows what'll happen to the poor little thing.

It's ludicrous, isn't it. There are adverts for year old, non-pedigree cats, with people asking for £150! I swear, there are some seriously stupid people around.

Why, why, why do people get pets without doing any research? Or getting them neutered, vaccinated, insured? Poor animals.

If they want to take him to a shelter, the Mayhew home in Harrow Road (Kensal Green) is excellent. They do a lot of rehoming, "vet" new owners and as a kitten he will probably find a new home very quickly.

At least its safe. My friend's just taken on a beautiful puppy that was left by side of very busy a-road near us, not tied up or anything, and it was dark, so amazing it was spotted. It would honestly have been dead in two minutes.

Really don't understand some people.

I really wish Gumtree would stop taking adverts for live animals - like ebay. Although, I suppose, it would then just trickle down to Facebook and local media. People horrify me sometimes.
