cat (not stray) getting in through our cat flap and eating OUR cat's food

dp has thrown things near,not at, it to scare it, chased it, sprayed water at it - to no avail. Our own cat needs a working flap.

Any ideas?

Hi Julia. You can get cat flaps that are operated using your cat's microchip-One here

I recommend the sure flap cat flap, it scans their microchip so only lets your cat/cats in.

Our cat used to do this and it is deeply iratating, we paid for a cat flap that was operated by a collar for our next door neighbour. The swift foot up the arse had not worked as had every other trick she had tried, do you know whose cat it is, i would be tempted to bill them for food :) (have to say though that out cat used to be encouraged in to a previous neighbours house from a kitten, so just assumes that every house is ok to do this too)

This happened to us all the time. The cats would stand guard at the cat flap and then have fights with other cats through the cat flap.

When we moved we fitted one of those of cat flaps that are activated by a magnet on the cat's collar.

I can't say the cats love it, it can be a tricky for them to get in if the magnet is slow to react but they do get in and no other cats can so I would recommend one.

our delightful pet will not wear a collar :(

It cost me £60 and 2hrs in a vets waiting room with a 10stone Rottie last time our cat had a fight though (there is always the biggest rotties in vets when I am in them), the flap works out cheaper in the long run if you look at it like that.

Plus savings in food and time spent cleaning up cat spray.

Our cat will go into houses if they have a flap, he used to wait for the next door neighbours to go out then nip in to beat their cat up until they got a locking cat flap.

Yes Sparkling Cat got set upon and it cost me £90 at the vets. Bloody ASBO burmese up the road.

Can I interrogate you on your and your cat's routine? Just wondered whether you have to leave food down or whether you could do 'mealtimes'?

next doors cat (massively ranting over this as next door have no cat flap, kick cat out in morning and work long hours, so he is looking for warmth and food)

comes in and eats cat food
has scratched my hands to pieces
has been found asleep ON MY BED
we woke up one morning and he was behind curtains in my bedroom
has peed all over dining room carpet when dh had him by scruff and was taking him out of house being removed
has SPRAYED - or rather KEEPS spraying all over my hall so my house stinks
came back from holiday and he was asleep up on ds cabin bed, which is our cats favourite hiding place.

dh is ready to spend the £79.99 plus £24 to get ours micro chipped. Ours is fluffly can't wear a collar it is mirochip or nothing

(our cat is huge fluff ball male - very wimpy, just sits and looks worried as his dinner disappears)

(we have huge bucket of water outside our back door and neighbours cat has been dunked in it several time, he just come straight back in)

The microchip catflap is worth EVERY penny. We finally relented last month after the neighbourhood Tom cat had used our house as a night-time drop-in centre for too long - eating our cats' food, spraying on the kitchen table (boak) and leaving fleas and hair over the sofa. Final straw was when it started shitting in the living room. I honestly don't know why we lived with it for so long. With the new mega flap in place our house is ours again and our cats are no longer terrified.

We had a male cat years ago who was found on the bed next door spark out.

We'd come home to a ginger cat in the hallway. We had four of them, you'd think one of them might fight it but they didnt.
