Scrapping ginger Toms... To vet or not to vet

George the cat is a ginger Tom, he's always been a scrapper and more so since Poppy the kitten has been venturing outside and the neighbourhood cats have been pestering her (yes she's been done). In the last week or so he's been covered in scratches, normally par for the course, however I spotted two scratches below his ear which are bald so all the surrounding fur has gone, they look clean and uninfected but as I can see them rather than only feel I'm more nervous. Take him to the vet?

Clarification...Spotted the scratch tonight not in the last week, that would be cruel.

Just bathe them gently in salt water.
No need to bring him to the vet unless:
Surrounding are is swollen, feel hot to the touch, the skin goes dark, smelly discharge. Or George is lethargic and off his food.
