I doubt it - but personally, even if they did, I wouldn't leave him there if he's that ill at that age. Wait and see what the vet says.

cozietoesie · 17/08/2012 08:35

PS - do you have a friend or relative who could cat sit/cat care for him in your own house while you're away?

mummatotwo · 17/08/2012 08:35

Cozie - he did pickup and seemed back to himself so didnt bother with the vets..but yesterday and last night he has gone back to square one with being sick.

I feel awful as we are going on holiday - /Ive got noone to have him here at all so we'd booked he cattery.

have been reading up and could be thyriod, or worse...blood tests would clarify but I feel as if Im being rushed into making a decision because of holiday feel very awful

no everyones on hols! my friend said I could take him to her but she has dogs and I think the journey alone would stress him out.

how long do results take to come back if he needs them?

Go on the net and check out cat sitting firms to be better informed before vets appointment - there are a lot of them around. They'll come in and look after him - although I've never used one so I don't know what their conditions are on health etc.

Also - you can check with your vet when you go whether they board cats or whether they know of another practice locally that does. (Some do - though not all.)

Results from bloods ? In my experience, a couple of days if outsourced by the vet. (I live in a big city though so you'd expect it to be quicker - depends where you live and time of year/hols etc.)

Some vets have the technology to do blood work themselves in-house - and much much quicker.

mummatotwo · 17/08/2012 10:36

just back from vets cozzie - he had a thorough check up and seemed ok but theyve kept him in for bloodtests which they can do in house and results should be back from when I collect later. Sending off for a thyriod one as well but results will be a couple of days. he had a wee bless him whilst there and they tested that - showed small amount of protein but no infection so may be down to him being de-hydrated. temp normal aswell

will see what the bloods bring back - cant believe how much the last hour has cost me

That's good. When you have a very old boy you tend to think dark thoughts every time he's unwell, don't you?

Might be an idea to phone the cattery and let them know the situation though so that they're (ever so gently) forewarned. Last thing you want is everything going pear-shaped at the last moment.

Best of luck to him and to you at the vets later on.

Oh - and yes. My vet is reasonable but even then I go 'Ouch!' to myself sometimes. He's worth it though.

quick update...

sadly the blood tests showed my gorgeous cat had some form of liver damage, the vet said he would need intensive treatment just to get him well enough before they could start to investigate. He was very weak and sadly and the hardest decision ever - we decided to have him put to sleep. he was nearly 19. We were going on holiday next day so decided not to tell our DS

Have just returned from hols and have just told our DS boy who was hysterical and cried and cried...broke my already broken heart.

Miss my gorgeous cat

Oh Mumma I am so sorry. Have a big hug.

We had to have our old cat PTS while we were on holiday. My Dad had to sort it all out, and coming home to her not being here was awful.

xx

cozietoesie · 26/08/2012 08:52

So sorry, mumma. I'm sure he had a great life with you though.

mummatotwo · 26/08/2012 08:59

thank you...yes coming home was awful. My DS kept saying when are we going to the cattery (he thought our cat was there) we decided to let him have a good nights sleept then tell him first thing as i knew telling him lastnight on our return would be awful. First thing he said this morning when he woke was are we going to the cattery.

He was so very upset, we are going to go buy a pretty plant today to put in the corner of the garden to remember our cat by.

something definately missing in the house .........

Sad The cat was a constant in his life since he was born then like ours was for our DC. Poor DS.
