Cat (10 months) has a temp of 40.1°C

He hasn't been himself since yesterday and every time he purrs he sounds wheezy (he sounds like a pigeon sometimes) but his breathing is fine.

He is slow moving and has done nothing but lay down all day.

It has been very hot here for the past two days, hotter than he has ever experienced. Could that be the reason?

I shudder to think how you reliably measured temp in a cat.
I wouldn't go on that but would assess him for other symptoms.
Why not ring vet & ask if they think if he needs to be seen?

A body temperature below 100 or above 103F warrants a call to your veterinarian. Cats may become stressed in the veterinary office (or car ride to the office), creating a higher-than-normal body temperature temporarily.

Gauging body temperature by the moistness of the nose is not reliable. Sometimes a fever can be noticed by how warm the ears feel, but this is also not a reliable method.

I would take him to the vets.

He might have an infection, ours has had temps when his anal glands were blocked.

I take ours in at the first sign of illness so he isnt suffering.

Hi. Our 2 year old Tabby has just been given the all clear from FIA. High temp and general lethargy are the main symptoms of that as well as the fact that she was off her food. Definately get kitty to the vet.

He is much better today (temp is down), eating his food and drinking water. He is still sleeping a lot though.

I have the fan on him to keep him cool. If he show any worrying signs again we will take him straight to the vet.
