Kitty gender wars - does it matter what sex your new kitten is?

Hi,

We have a much-loved neutered nine year old male cat, and are thinking of getting a kitten. I have been reading all the posts on here about introducing established and new cats to each other, but I had also heard that you should avoid certain gender combinations, ie male and male, or female and male (obviously I will get the new kitten neutered!). I can't remember any of the specific advice about what you should do in this situation.

Does anyone know anything about this - or is it nonsense?

as you are getting a kitten gender is not important , its if you have a resident adult female cat that getting another adult female cat is not a good idea as two females will vie for supremesy, i have three boy cats and one small female cat guess who rules the roost in our house yes the little madam

Thank you issey6cats, that is helpful.

So basically we can get a kitten of either sex.

I will look at the threads about getting adult cats/kittens used to each other and follow that advice.
