It has been going on since last weekend. I took her to the vets on Tuesday, who said she had cystitis, and gave her an antibiotoc and some anti inflammatory medicine for me to give her.

She is no better. Surely this isn't cystitis - that wouldn't make you bleed would it? When she wees it comes out bright red.

She is fine in every other way, seems her normal happy self. The course of medicine will finish this weekend so will take her back on Monday. But what could it be?

Could be antiB-resistant cystitis.
Blood in wee is a common sign of UTI in cats (says Google search).
I think it'd be fine for you ring vet & chat about her slow recovery. My guess is that if it's not cystitis it's likely to be something far more severe & difficult to successfully treat (but I'm only guessing).

A severe infection can cause bleeding, I'd call the vets just to be sure, ours have free nurse consults.

Read up on idiopathic cystitis; blood is not necessarily a sign of a UTI.

Thank you very much - I have just had a look.

The vet felt the cat's bladder - said it wasn't swollen. She did asked if she was stressed, we have had a new cat move in next door and he keeps coming in the house, so it could be that. She is also fed on dry food so will look to change their food to see if that can help.

I will call them again this afternoon I think.

Thank you all very much.

Our cat gets it, triggered by the arrival of two new cats in the neighbourhood, which were terrorising her. I saw them off one day and they've kept a low profile since. We also changed from dry to wet food. Et voila! Smile
