So sad to lose a dear old friend - 18 is really good age though. Have a from me

LadyBeckenham · 30/12/2011 11:30

It may sound trite, but it gets better. My old boy was PTS 6 weeks ago and we are slowly coming to terms with it, and it gets a bit less painful every day.
have a {hug}

mankyscotslass · 30/12/2011 11:32

Oh that's sad. Sad

Will be thinking of you and Liquorice.

We lost our beloved huge ginger tom yesterday, so I sympathise.

Catsmamma · 30/12/2011 11:33

So sad.

totally ace name though. xxx

BeckyBendyLegs · 30/12/2011 11:35

Thank you x. I'm a blubbering wreck at the moment. I knew she wasn't right over Christmas (it turned out she had first and secondary cancer) but it is still a shock. She had a lovely long life. She spent the first five years of her life on a farm, catching rabbits (why they eventually sent her to a cat sanctuary as they were trying to breed them). Then she lived there for a year before DH and I went to choose a cat and she sat on my lap (won me over straight away). We've had her for 12 years and she's seen three babies and another cat enter her house. We will all miss her dearly x

Always sad to have to say goodbye. It does get easier with time, I was a big sobbing wreck when we had to get our cat PTS in August but I am able to think of her without tears now. Um, sometimes. :(

BeckyBendyLegs · 30/12/2011 15:45

House is funny without her. I don't think our other cat has noticed yet (mainly because Liquorice has been sleeping so much lately, in the airing cupboard and amongst the shoes in the utility room - daft cat that she was).

to you my lovely. Hope you are ok.

mankyscotslass · 30/12/2011 15:53

BeckyBendyLegs I know what you mean. It's just wrong without mine too. Sad

Our tabby has noticed - infact we think he tried to tell us Mac had gone, he went mad outside our bedroom door at 5 yesterday morning, which would tie in with when we think Mac died.

The tabby is wandering around the house crying, and can't settle anywhere. Sad Sad

mankyscotslass · 30/12/2011 15:53

What other daft things did your cat do?

BeckyBendyLegs · 30/12/2011 16:07

PavlovtheCat hello!

Mankyscotlass your poor tabby. He must have really loved your Mac - they are quite amazing sometimes in the things they do :(

She was a lovely, daft cat. In fact my email address is @daftcat.co.uk as we had two daft cats. Liquorice used to wake me up at 3am when it was cold and snuggle next to my head, purring really loudly. She never went to DH but he said that was because she knew I'd let her sleep next to me whereas he would just push her off the bed. The weird thing was though that in the evening, watching TV, she always went to his lap and not mine. She would also sit on my laptop (I work at home) when she was hungry to force me to notice that she needed food. She was a very gentle soul and a very attractive cat - mostly black with tan speckles. What was Mac like?

SootySweepandSue · 30/12/2011 22:41

I am sorry for your loss. Such a hard time to lose a dear friend.

mankyscotslass · 31/12/2011 12:32

BeckyBenyLegs

Mac was 12 weeks old when we collected him and his sister from the rescue centre - we fell in love with him when we went to look and heard his purr from the other end of the building!

Frst night we had him he hid behind the table lamp, and only came out long enough to pinch pasta from my plate and sniff DH's beer.

He was a huge ginger tom cat, with lovely soft fur, he was crosseyed and had a misaligned jaw too. He was a great hunter though, his favourites being frogs and mice. It's not the first time we have been up an 1am trying to get a traumatised frog out from behind the fridge!

He loved lying on me and would stretch out full length on my legs, and purr so loudly that we would need to turn the TV volume up.

He was really timid too, and if he wasn't sure who was in the house he would hide for ages.

The kids have taken it really badly - not settling at night and the eldest, DS9 was in our bed crying for ages last night. Sad

BeckyBendyLegs · 31/12/2011 12:53

He sounds a real character.

My three DSs are ok at the moment. DS1, who is eight, cried yesterday and came with me to the vet to say goodbye to Liquorice but he's ok today, he said he missed her today. It was me that had a bad night last night, I couldn't sleep, I kept thinking about how she used to snuggle next to my head and purr and sleep or how she used to jump on us at 3am, walk across me, then DH, walk back again, and then snuggle between the two under the duvet. I kept waking up. I miss her. Ho hum. And our other cat has now noticed and she's very clingy today. She doesn't understand as Liquorice has just disappeared in her mind.

Sounds like she had a long, varied and happy life, hugs to you, I know it's hard to see them go.

Our tabby is still unsettled too. We lost Macs sister years ago - she got killed on the road outside our house.

DH didn't sleep well last night either. I think it will take us all a while to adjust.

Your Liqourice sounds gorgeous.
