The litter tray

Confessions of a novice Kitten owner

We got a 9 week old kitten from the rescue centre a month ago.
Never had a pet before.
Here are some lessons I have learned.

1.Do not bulk buy kitten food in advance, the type may not agree with him and he will have the squits if he continues to eat it.
2.Do not buy fancy igloo bed, he will peep in once, wee in it and then sleep where he chooses.
3.The high sided litter tray was a good buy. Once he was used to it I put the lid on and it contains the - er contents.
4.He will hate the cat basket and poo in it.
5.If you try to familiarise him with it by leaving it around with a few toys in it he will go in and poo in it.
6.If he has done a poo somewhere he will do another on the same spot no matter how much I clean up.
7.Home made toys are the best. He loves boxes. DS stuck two boxes together at an angle with a hole cut through and stuck some foil on string inside. This is his number one favourite toy. He also loves an empty tissue box, primark carrier bag and a cardboard tube.
8.The fancy cat activity centre we bought is of no interest to kitten.

  1. He hates cellotape. I have stuck it around the base of areas I want him to keep out of and he won't push past it.

10.He doesn't respond to NO in any language or tone of voice.

Let them out only once neutered. If keeping for breeding don't let out.
Some of the spot on flea things do worms too. Ask your vet.
I have a cat that was a runt. She is 18 months but still looks about 4 months. So i like to call her kitten. Like i call my 20 month DS baby Hmm. Doesn't stop me wanting another one though Grin! Kitten that is. I'm fairly certain I'm getting another baby in June Wink.

Ah marlin I didn't know that about the worming tablet. Last week I did the holding his mouth shut thing. When I let go he spat it out so the second time I had a Dreamy ready and I was certain he had swallowed. But....I later found what looked suspiciously like the remains of a tablet.I daren't give him another though.
I got worm tablet from the vet, he had to have half as he only weighs 700g.it was Milbemax.

He will be neutered, the vet said at 5 months. Seems a shame he has to wait so long to go outside although I'm sure I'll be anxious about him when he does.
Just like my teenagers then Smile

Well my 2 have arrived and so far so good, they seem to be settling in well. They are so, so tiny though - no more than 7 weeks at a guess but I'm no expert.

They like their new toys (for now Grin ) have eaten well and are now fast asleep behind the sofa all curled up together.

And no accidents, just some smelly, smelly poos in the litter tray. I'm going to book the vet tomorrow to get them a check over and any advice needed.

I am waiting to see what the wee small hours bring first! I've been told they sleep right through and aren't up running around all night. I am also dreading getting up to the litter tray.

But the DDs and I have had so much fun tonight! My rabbit doesn't look too impressed though. He is very spoiled though.

The poohs are only tiny (for now),so not so bad.
Enjoy your new babies Smile
