Can I clean my cat's teeth? And what should I do about their food issues?

We have 2 rescue Siamese and when we got them , the home told us what food they were on which was an all in one dry food. We kept giving it to them but noticed they regurgtated a lot of it...we slowly switched to a more expensive brand but the same thing.

They had been thouroughly checked by the vet when we got them with no troubles and I read that Siamese can be sick a lot....so we have been giving them some dry food in one dish and cooked chicken or fish such as sardines in another.

They have stopped being sick....s this ok? Or not balanced in some way?

And one cat has stained fangs at the front..like tartar....can it be removed.

You can try and brush their teeth, but I've never been succesful, you get stuff at pet shops though.

My Siamese has dodgy teeth too, the vet says it's a Siamese thing :( she had to have them cleaned and 2 out at 2 yrs old

I didn't know being sick was too, I find cats suckier than dogs in general anyway - I'd be tempted to give them a complete wet cat food rather than chicken, but if the bulk of their food is the dried stuff I can't see it really being an issue

Oh not another thing! They're very docile so I will try to clean them...what should I use? A toothbrush? Just plain or do I need some kind of fishy flavoured fangpaste?

I've been trying mine on PlaqueOff, it's supposed to be good; I bought it at the vets. (You sprinkle it on their food once a day)

Of course it only stands a chance of working if the cat actually eats the stuff and one of mine won't have anything to do with itHmm

The special dental biscuits from the vet he likes of course, but they are soo ££. I'm just buying some Whiskas dental biscuits now instead.

The vet did say you can clean thier teeth with some gel but I just can't see mine allowing that.

SparklyCloud · 04/11/2011 20:18

There is a liquid you buy at the vet to add to their drinking water, supposed to be good.
Plaque off did not work for mine.

brushing with a babies toothbrush and some poultry toothpaste does work.

You can buy pet toothbrushes or rubber things you stick on your finger and flavoured toothpaste

mine's very laidback as well, I can brush her, use her paw on my laptop (just for amusement value, lol) and hold her cradled on her back like a baby, when I have to give her tablets I literally pop them in her mouth and she swallows them, she doesn't even object to the vet taking her temperature...I've never managed to brush her teeth though, rofl

Cooked meat doesn't have taurine in it, without it they can die. The American websites have some interesting articles on taurine in cooked food.

Have you tried applaws biscuits? They have no cereal in them. Cereals make my cat sick.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 04/11/2011 21:42

They do have complete dry food there too Fluffy so I assume that has Taurine in it?

Going to google Applaws biscuits and rubber things you stick on your fingers!

and to try the cats paw laptop thing

Cat buckaroo is also fun...

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 04/11/2011 21:48

What on earth is that!? You don't lay random objects on the cat do you? Until he bucks? Grin

Blush yep that's pretty much it, the person who makes the cat move and knock the things off loses, lol

My other cat, not a Siamese - you can play, but only if she's asleep, once she wakes up she looks at you like this Hmm and sits up

the Siamese, she just lies there and watches you do it, lol, you usually lose because she moves her head to see what you're putting on her
