I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

Oopscat is being very naughty boy. He should know it is your spot but to be fair, if he can't see Sad. Poor little love not remembering he has been fed. How old is he? Oh, they get under our skin, these furry balls.

Don't they just. He's getting your smell on him because it makes him feel safe, you're his mum after all. I'm sure that's why they do it. So it's very flattering that they nick your seat (and your bed, and delve into your washing basket and then leave your underwear all over the sitting room when you've just brought home a rather hot date, um I didn't say that).

TheOriginalFAB · 20/10/2011 19:30

As long as it was the nice stuff and not the comfy stuff...

Jux Grin

Oopscat is 16. He has decided my pillow is a nice comfy spot. Unfortunately he always remembers this in the middle of the night when my head is on it... so he just flops down on my face. Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 20/10/2011 20:46

LOL!

FABCat used to sleep on our bed until I found out I was expecting DC1. Now she has a gorgeous comfy bed but I miss her sleeping on the bed.

GrinBlush comfy stuff I'm afraid.

My cats all sleep on our beds; they spend half the night swapping round. I had one cat (sadly now gone to that daisy field in the sky) who always slept on my head; lovely and warm, and so relaxing to have a cat purring on your face! Could do with her now, our boiler's broke and we have no heating.

TheOriginalFAB · 21/10/2011 07:40

I have made DH agree to letting her sleep on our bed, if se wants too, when her time is coming. She has free run of the house all day and mainly sleeps on the sofa. She doesn't go upstairs much anymore, usually only when she wants feeding is looking for me.

Jux · 22/10/2011 20:02

Quite right too! You could always carry her up when you go.... mind you, I'm just thinking about how much difference it makes to me at the moment to have a cat or two on the bed (must remember, not everyone has no heating!) Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 22/10/2011 20:39

It really upsets me to see her moving so slowly and I can almost see her trying to work out how to move.

Hello all, can I join in? Slave to the venerable Oscar (17 and the boss of me), former slave to the late Jas and Stella.

TheOriginalFAB · 23/10/2011 09:02

You can join in but my thread is so long and old that you might not get many responses if you particularly want to discuss something.

FABCat hasn't eaten much breakfast and had drunk a lot of water over night.

New meds not making any difference yet Sad.

OP posts:
Onemorning · 23/10/2011 13:37

Sorry to hear that FAB, hope they kick in soon.

Nothing specific to discuss, just like chatting with other cat people.

TheOriginalFAB · 23/10/2011 13:49

She has had runny deposits too. I will have to ring the vet tomorrow Sad.

OP posts:
Jux · 23/10/2011 13:50

Were they meant to make an immediate difference, FAB?

Our No. 1 WussCat slept on my head last night!!!! He's never done that before - must have been really cold. As a result I actually slept late - whoopdidoo - but he has spent ever since trying to curl up on my book and dribbling on it Grin

DH thinks MentalKitten reinfests the house with fleas by constantly bringing in mice. Roll on winter, when there won't be any around (but not before the new boiler comes in next w/e). That was a very nice thing about elderly cats, far fewer fleas.

Jux · 23/10/2011 13:52

Hi, Onemorning, tell us about Oscar.

TheOriginalFAB · 23/10/2011 13:56

FABCat just bit me.

The vet said the meds should work in about 3 days.

OP posts:
Jux · 23/10/2011 14:28

Today or tomorrow, then? What sort of effect are they supposed to have? Memory? Appetite? Movement?

Runny deposits are not much fun at all. Is she long-haired? (please say no, please say no.)

TheOriginalFAB · 23/10/2011 15:09

One lot of meds is to help her with her movements. She struggles to get up from sitting after a while. The other is to try and sort out her leaking issues.

She is short haired and keeps herself clean.

OP posts:
Onemorning · 23/10/2011 16:02

Poor FABcat :(

Oscar is 17 and looks younger. He was in rude health until last year when he started having fits. It turns out he's got heart disease and epilepsy, and is on meds for both. He has some arthritis in his back legs. No fits since February, thankfully. He looks much younger than 17 (still a big cat, only losing some muscle in his hind quarters) and I'm starting to worry that he won't be with us much longer.

He's a short hair, very cuddly and affectionate.

TheOriginalFAB · 23/10/2011 18:10

FABCat is 17 too and has been in good health until 6 years ago when she started having funny turns and was diagnosed with hyperestesia. She is a biggish cat too. They sound made for each other Grin.

OP posts:
Jux · 24/10/2011 23:19

'ere 'ere, what's going on? A bit of MN match-making? Grin

Glad for you that she's short haired, FAB. Our lovely cat (RIP), not long before she was hit by a car and killed, had a touch of diarrhoea. She wasn't a proper long hair, but was very fluffy - dh always said she was a large tail with a small cat attached - anyway, in the end we had to give her to the vet to wash! It was truly vile! He seemed inured to it, said he'd had an appt to wash a rabbit, but they'd cancelled so he could do Tish immediately. DH and I are so pathetic.

Are the new meds showing an effect yet?

TheOriginalFAB · 25/10/2011 12:51

Yes, but not in a good way Sad. They have given her runny bottom so the vet said to stop for a week and then restart. If she has runny poos again I have to stop them and ring her. He wants to go gently with her but we can't have her in pain. If there is no poo but no change in a week I have to hone him as we might have to up the dosage.

I said I didn't want to get to the point where I felt we should have done something sooner but he said no, he is quite positive about her at the moment.

OP posts:
Jux · 25/10/2011 17:15

Runny bums are no fun, though I'm not sure cats care abouts them so much. The vet sounds positive though, and that's great. Poor you having to deal with it all.

TheOriginalFAB · 25/10/2011 17:52

I have had FABCat for 17 years and 20 days. She came to me when my ex decided he wanted a cat. No discussion. He was a bastard to her and kicked her. I left him when he started on me. I still feel pretty shit I didn't leave after her hurt her like she wasn't worth as much as me. She has been my little love. She has let me cry all over her and cuddle her when I was heartbroken. She was company when I moved into my new flat and stopped me feeling scared at living alone. She slept on my bed and kept my toes warm. She has never ever said I was fat, stupid or a piece of shit like exes I have had have said She will die one day though, won't see? Sad in total denial

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 25/10/2011 18:39

FABCat just scared the life out of me.

She was doing something and then a claw shaped nail fell off. It looks like a layer of nail. She then looked to be biting her foot until I distracted her. She is now settles and curled up.

Earlier she bit DH. He stroked her, put his hand down and she bit him.
