I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

You're lucky you're not dining on gravel!

TheOriginalFAB · 15/06/2011 17:51

LOL.

She refused her renal wet food completely. She ate renal biscuits. This morning she ate Gourmet Hold normal food but told me dh hadn't fed her Grin. She has been asleep all morning now. Seems more than usual [worried].

Sleeping more than usual? She had had a big meal though. How is she today?

Incidentally, I got downstairs yesterday morning to be met by all 3 cats begging for food - none of them had been fed for weeeeeeeeeeeks apparently Wink. I knew dh had fed them because he always leaves the tin on the table and there it was. But their bowls were empty and they hadn't been fed for weeks so I gave them all some more which was gobbled down, none left within a few minutes. DH came down, and he really had fed them. Two breakfasts Hmm.

Something in the air yesterday?

TheOriginalFAB · 17/06/2011 10:22

I didn't feed her again so she just had normal. She has just woken up and is having a wash. She refused her breakfast even though it was normal food because I put her medicinal powder in it.

She has had something to eat now.

Sad oh FAB Sad

TheOriginalFAB · 17/06/2011 19:13

I am telling myself it was because she was getting up from being curled up and slipped between the cushions. But twice?
Sad

What can I say, FAB? Is she drinking? It could be because she's not eating much, or she had just roused from a deep sleep. No good trying to guess though really, I'm not an expert.

Are you seeing the vet again at some point?

Hope you both have a good night. x

TheOriginalFAB · 18/06/2011 09:18

I have just been to check her dishes and she has nearly emptied 3 bowls of water. She has eaten her breakfast which is normal food. I am seeing the vet in a few weeks but can take her sooner if needs be.

She just bit me!!

And I let her have some roast chicken.

All I did was stroke her leg. She is really cross now and throwing her tail around.

Life in the old girl yet! Grin

Happy Sunday

TheOriginalFAB · 19/06/2011 19:44

She seems different to me but DH doesn't think so. She is sleeping a lot on the kitchen chair. Normally she would be on the sofa by now next to me.

OP posts:
Jux · 20/06/2011 17:49

Do you pick her up and take her there? I do that with cats; we each want a cat sleeping next to us, so if there's one available, we just bring it with us. They're all so used to it, they barely notice they've been moved.

TheOriginalFAB · 20/06/2011 17:54

I don't move her when she is asleep. She is asleep next to me on the sofa and she even looks like she is sleeping in a different position than usual. Sort of upright.

I dropped dc1 and 2 off with dh at home and asked ds1 to feed FabCat and not to give her the renal food. I got home to find he had given her the renal food Hmm. Obviously she didn't eat any of it so I have her normal food once I knew. She has eaten some of it.

Kids are simply not to be relied upon, are they?

DH is a bit mental about our cats. He makes little staircases for them. We have one by the cat flap for instance, so they don't have to make an effort getting back in. The ground at the back of the house, where the flap is, is a bit lower than the ground at the front, so when they come out of the flap they have a little jump down, and back up again when they come in. It's easy peasy, but this is a man who has commandeered a whole towel so the cats can be rubbed down and dried when they come in from the rain! "but he's wet!" he cries , "he's a cat" I respond "and that's the best hand towel we've got", "but he's wet"........... No hand towels at Jux Mansions!

He has also made a staircase out of stones to help the frogs get out of the pond. FFS, they'd managed perfectly well before we moved here!

Don't let him anywhere near your place; he'd be building staircases out of books for the sofa, for the kitchen chairs, you name it. And none of us would be allowed to move any of it, even if they were constantly tripping us up, or - heaven forbid! - we actually wanted to read one of the books.

Mental, see?!

TheOriginalFAB · 21/06/2011 10:05

Confused He sounds perfectly normal!! Grin.

This morning she stopped eating her food to drink some cat milk (very excited as she doesn't get it very much) but on coming back from school I find she hasn't eaten or drunk much. Sad. DH said she has played with her toy a bit and is now washing herself after her nap.

OP posts:
Jux · 21/06/2011 10:31

The cat milk is probably quite filling; it's really thick and gloopy isn't it? Probably acts quite a lot like food and fills up her tum so she's not interested in food. She deserves treats though, so don't let that put you off from giving it, just perhaps not too often.... maybe you could make it a reward type thing? If she eats a little, then you put down some milk.

You're all mad. Staircases Grin (for bloody frogs!! They hop!)

TheOriginalFAB · 21/06/2011 11:30

Milk is a very rare treat but I have just been and bought her poncey food. She is asleep now.

OP posts:
Jux · 22/06/2011 08:52

Poncy Food sounds good.... (thinking of Homer Simpson - "mmmmmmmmm, Floor Pie"). Not quite sure why that popped into my head! Seemed relevant at the time.

She's played a bit, and washed herself, and eats a bit and enjoys treats. TBH, she sounds a bit like how my mum was towards the end of her life. Being mammals, cats' biology etc is very similar to ours. Mum was bone tired at this stage, and so is FabCat; she still enjoyed treats and things though.

TheOriginalFAB · 22/06/2011 10:59

Oh. has mini panic attack

Sorry to hear you have lost your mum Sad.

OP posts:
Jux · 22/06/2011 11:24

FAB, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause you more worry. I really am sorry. SadSadSadSadSadSadSadSad

I really didn't mean it was imminent. I just meant general slowing down, as happens to the elderly, twilight years, that sort of thing. Oh god, I am an idiot.

TheOriginalFAB · 22/06/2011 11:37

Please, no need to apologise Smile. I would rather know and have some warning and preparation. TBH FabCat will probably out live all of us!

No way are you an idiot Smile.

Am going through renal failure now with my cat, so now how you feel with the constant checking on food intake. Lots of sympathy, am going to post a thread about my cat now.
