A week ago my cat was diagnosed with kidneys which are starting to fail.

In her room where she eats and sleeps at night it smells of wee. Is it connected?

Sorry you got bad news for her, glad it wasn't the worst though

& YES, it will be, she's probably struggling to get to her tray/outside quick enough, from experience I'd recommend getting yourself a few small litter trays to dot around the house near her favourite spots, she'll be happier for it, as they don't like messing where they shouldn't

not ideal I know, but comes with the territory of having an elderly cat with health problems I'm afraid

She has 100% access to the garden 100% of the time but I will get her a litter tray as well.
Thanks for replying.

One of our cats was diagnosed with early kidney failure two years, has been switched to a kidney friendly diet which he eats 90% of the time - still steals some other food - and has put weight back on after loosing over a kilo at the time (he is a big cat btw). We were told it would most likely shorten his life but he is doing very well two years later. We do now provide a litter tray and he does use it quite a lot whereas he always used to go outside - I think he has got a bit lazy and found it too cold to go outside during the snowy weather!

I've had Kidney problems in the past myself, & it DOES make you want to run to the loo more & need to get there more quickly, & also cold weather does make that worse, so I expect thats part of your Cats problem too wufti......though they can get lazier with age too & just feeling spoilt :)

I don't have that problem with my cat who has the same thing-renal insufficiency?

Did you get special food and pills? Did they put her on a drip for a bit?
