Got my (lovely) rescue cat on Friday - he seems to be settling in well - but he's not really eating much...

is this normal? Is it just his way of reacting to the move?

He's made himself at home, and is quite comfortable striding round the house, sitting on laps, playing with the DS's etc.

He's got water available, and I've carried on feeding him what the fostered had been (wet pouch morning and night and dry available in the day).

He's been using the litter tray so is "going" fine.

This morning he didn't touch the wet stuff, this evening he's eaten about 1/2 of it. And has only really picked at the dry during the day.

Is this normal - - at what point do I start to worry??

Oops I never thought about their teeth Blush

Its dried food specially for kittens so I guess its slightly softer

They are still not too keen

But have eaten some today, I just want to fill them up for a bit longer tbh as they are constantly begging for food Hmm

Do a gradual mix with dry and wet for the kittens, gradually ending up with more and more dry, until it's not actually worth putting the wet in. My three mogs are on dry only. They don't need kitten food at 9 months (note how it's more expensive and less in the pack).

Really?

I thought thy had to have kitten food till they were 1. Am planning to switch them then but if you think I can do it now I will Grin

I am mixing it with their wet food already.

he sounds great, really relaxed cat to have been on laps and so sociable from the off.

they don't drink much. will take what they want, but it's nice to keep fresh water down.

my cat likes to drink from a measuring jug i keep in the bathroom for some reason!

piratecat · 29/01/2011 19:31

they can move on to qdult food by 7-8 months. i am sure the cats we had when i was a kid never had it so good!!!

LilRedWG · 29/01/2011 19:33

He's realised it's not his favourite Felix and is rebelling. :o

FrottageCod · 29/01/2011 19:38

Have you got his water near his food. I read somewhere that cats don't like the two being together. You lucky thing, I really really miss my lovely cat, sounds daft but he was like another child to me. Hugs to Jambo and I hope he settles in soon. I know that when we moved house, mine took a fair while to get back to normal eating habits.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 29/01/2011 22:18

haha Lil - well I've got (had - just finished the last Felix a few minuutes) the Felix still and tried him on that as well.

He seems to have settled into a routine of eating 1/2 a pouch in the morning, and then in the evening half of another pouch. And has occasionally eaten more than one piece of his dry food in one go Grin

Have caught him peering right into the (kitchen) sink a few times so maybe he's getting the drops from in there too.....

He's definitely taken a shine to my old (well not very old I only got it last year) computer chair. Spends hours lying there, and just when I start to think.....hmm he's been there FOREVER hope he's ok - he'll suddenly fly through into here chasing a ball, or a piece of cardboard of something.

Though the other night he decided the sofa opposite me was better and lay their for hours instead Grin

He's currently exploring the cupboard under the stairs........if he doesn't get lost he's going to scare the crap out of himself by knocking something over - it's not exactly clean any tidy hehe

Cats are fab aren't they? We got our rescue cat last year and she is a joy.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 29/01/2011 22:34

DS's are at their dad's tonight. This morning DS1 brought the little suitcase downstairs which they take their overnight stuff in. And Jambo suddenly emerged from the dining room and lay on the (still empty at that point) suitcase in the middle of the room - I only managed to entice him off by feeding him lol.

ooooo - and he's just decided to come and join me in the living room - lying on the other sofa

wait till there are empty boxes around, or you have to wrap a present!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 29/01/2011 22:49

hehe - changing my bedsheets last week was fun Grin

and he pounced on the church newsletter when I printed it out earlier lol

I left the door open on my tumble drier by accident and I came back downstairs to find both kitties curled up sleeping inside the drum

Grin Grin

They have also got a liking for the shopping basket underneath DD's buggy. I got a Shock when I did the school run last wk but luckily I had only got just outside my front door and they leapt out Blush
