I noticed this morning that one of my cats was scratching his ears, twitching his ears and shaking his head a lot this morning. I had a closer look and saw what I thought were very small black bugs, I assumed that he's just picked up somethng from sitting in a bush (or whatever they get up to when they're out and about). This evening,he doesnt seem to have got much better, and I can tell that he's starting to get frustrated. I've googled, and now think that they are ear mites. I have twocats, the other seems to be fine. I have given them both some flea drops this afternoon. While I wait for a vet's apt, is there anything that I can do to relieve the poor soul? :(

Any oil - olive oil, vegetable oil or baby oil, on cotton wool is best to clean them. This will suffocate the mites and make her feel much better.

Thanks, the poor thing has scratched his ears so much that they're starting to look raw. I tried a tiny bit of olive oil last night but he went balistic, I think it may have stung :( so I gave it up! I've got an appointment at the vets Wednesday evening, I just hope he can cope with it until then! I hope the other one doesnt get it too!!

It won't have stung but they don't like being wet, you should use cotton wool dipped in and wrung out. Hope you get him sorted, it's not nice for them. :(
