Please help me get the cats to go outside rather than use the litter tray

Hi all,

I have recently acquired two lovely cats. They now use the cat flap fine and i would like to get rid of the litter tray. The older cat seems fine with this, but the 2 year old I think has always had a litter tray and having got rid of the litter tray two days ago we are coming down to some lovely "presents" - in the kitchen yesterday and all over a beanbag this morning.... Xmas Sad

I will re-introduce the tray today, but can you advise on how I can gradually get rid of it? Will this happen on its own or can I do anything to encourage her?

Thanks,

Bloss

It's maybe the weather, mines never use the trays but have been using them the last month or so cos the ground is frozen!

We gradually moved the litter tray through the house to the cat flap, then put it just outside the cat flap, then down into the garden. Worth digging a nice spot in the garden for the second one to use (temporarily). And do an incredibly thorough clean of the indoor spots the cat has used using highly scented cleaning products so they don't associate those spots with poo. You might not be able to smell it any more but they can.

Excellent suggestions. Thankyou! Will read them out to DH when he gets back. (with a new litter tray as I have binned the old one..)
