Hiking trainer recommendations

I'm looking for some trainers for hiking. I have proper boots but would like something lighter but still supportive with good grip. Ideally I'd like a bit of coverage around the ankle.
I've done some Googling and there are a lot around. Just wondering if anyone has any they particularly like please. £100 max.

If it's actually for hill walking then I would say wear your proper walking boots. Likewise coastal paths. If what you want is a decent walking shoe/hiking shoe/dog walking shoe then Deichman. However, they do wear out within a year of heavily used

Thank you Printedword, it's for more lightweight walking than hill walking or coastal walking. It won't be every day. I'll look at the brand you suggest.

Basics or Nike trail shoes

I wear North Face approach shoes in Summer. Mine are over 10 years old and in great condition still. The style I have are low cut, but you can get mid cut versions for ankle support.

Adidas terrex are great

Go to any camping and outdoor shop and try some on. For cheaper shoes, try Mountain Warehouse or Trepass, or go to Go Outdoors or Cotswolds for higher priced shoes.

Merrell MOAB shoes, so comfortable and hard wearing. I see quite a few people out and about with them, popular for a reason. Would replace them with the same when they die

I've hiked extensively in Decathlon trail running trainers. They are my go to for hiking but not a boot

I like my Salomons. Goretex. Need them in Scotland!

I'm a big fan of Inov8 - a UK company that has grown out of fell-running. Also good (especially if you have narrow feet) are La Sportiva and Scarpa. For wide feet look at Altra and maybe Meindl

You get good deals on them (and whole load of other brands) at sportsshoes.com

I tend to go back and forth between Meindl and Salomon. The Salomons feel lighter on and do wear out a bit quicker. Meindl are a bit more old school in style and very hard wearing. My only issue is that they only come in blue/grey or brown and it usually only seems to be the blue/grey available. I’d just like a change occasionally after 4 pairs! Great walking shoes though.

@MamaBoboI have some Meindl boots as well as my Merrell MOAB shoes, the boots are indeed a little dull so I put some coloured laces in them. I like my shoes as they are grey with light blue - I’m not a pink/red/purple person at all
