Flora or Fauna.

Extra points for a photo.

Handicap will apply to those in Forrin. Monthly win will not automatically go to, for example, a Cougar spot. The Cougar will need to be doing something awesome, like fighting a bear or doing sudoku.

poor goldfish Sad

I'm still playing with my cormorant in flight. I care not if they are common, they are big and naturey.

An otter ate my duck [needs a sticking her tongue out emoticon] I'm getting a bit overly competitive now Blush Although I very like the imagery associated with children's parties and left over goldfish. I'm going to award you a point for that.

Slubber what is it with you and eating creatures hearts. Is there something you need to tell me?

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 18:55

If it did not eat your duck in March then you cannot play with it!
[de ja vu]

Offal is so on trend losty. Did you not know?

OP posts:
lostinwales · 09/03/2012 18:59

it ate my duck last summer, sorry.

I have never and will never be on trend, it's still the 1970's round here.

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 19:04

I bet in the 1970s they ate heart, flambeed in brandy with a sprig of that curly parsley on the side.

They are meant to be delicious losty. Will feed back.

apols for meaty hijack

I didn't see anything more exciting than lots of seagulls today. But I did see a lot of mud. Lots and lots of mud and sand, and a new sand bank as this big old full moon has made some massive tidal ranges over the last few days.

Some one has to come last in these competitions. I feel I'm performing a public service here. There was a Los a whopping great ferry metres from the mud/sand in the deep channel, but that isn't going to get me any points.

Oh, but would a pipestrelle bat count? Saw one in the garden last night....

Losty your duck eating otter is always a winner Grin

HedleyLamarr · 09/03/2012 19:28

This afternoon I spent a very pleasant half an hour watching and listening to two skylarks about 200 metres apart. They were displaying their hearts out.

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 20:09

Rofl @ mud spot Grin

I have the RSPB site permanently open as a tab now. The skylarks sound amazing Hedley.

I'm loving the one-upmanship re wildlife eating pets. Grin It will end with a spot of the loch ness monster eating someone's rottweiller, but no one will be impressed unless it happened this March.

A bird of prey killed a pigeon (I think a pigeon -- it might have been some other boring garden bird, can't remember) in my garden once. I'll probably get told off for mentioning another non-March-2012 event, but it was so exciting. Really beats watching a blue tit eat peanuts.

Northey · 09/03/2012 21:54

My cat killed a magpie in next door's garden two years ago. It was amazing. Thankfully she gave up trying to get it through the cat flap after 20 minutes of struggle to a soundtrack of excited purry chirrups.

iseenodust · 09/03/2012 22:03

Greylag geese returned to village pond yesterday. Spring is sprung.

iseenodust · 09/03/2012 22:05

Forgot DS's distress this morning at seeing 5 drakes all trying to 'fight' one poor duck. Made DH assure him he would put a stop to it on way back.

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 22:08

Does no one understand the rules?
Am I just talking to myself?

Top Trumps March, this March, not two years ago march.

iseenodust you are today's winner just for doing a proper spot from yesterday.

OP posts:
Northey · 09/03/2012 22:12

I did a proper spot from today, but my frolicky pink-tongued lamb met only mockery. Can you blame me for desperately searching for something, anything to impress?

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 22:16

And you came back with vintage magpie in catflap mash up?

OP posts:
Northey · 09/03/2012 22:20

Well there's that time I fell over a golden eagle on Mull ten years ago. But then someone would just point out that golden eagles are ten a penny round there way.

It's just all so difficult.

Northey · 09/03/2012 22:21

As is spelling. their. Not there.

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 22:25

Never mind eh.

Plenty of March left, there's always tomorrow.

OP posts:
Northey · 09/03/2012 22:27

Exactly, slubber, exactly. Maybe that fat dull swan will have learnt to tap dance overnight.

Slubberdegullion · 09/03/2012 22:30

I'm full of hope something incredible is going to happen with your blended cow family.

OP posts:
MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 09/03/2012 22:35

Ok, this morning on dog walk at 6.30;

Barn owl
Heron
Swans
Duck
Roe deer

On the way to work there was a squashed weasel and I have just put my first clutch of eggs in the incubator

iseenodust · 09/03/2012 22:36

Oooh does that mean I go on some kind of winners shortlist ?

GrimmaTheNome · 09/03/2012 23:20

All this fauna, what of the flora?

My first celandine of the year while cycling yesterday.

A goosander (I think - never can remember difference twixt them and mergansers and it spent most of the time submerged).

I think I saw a comorant. (def saw one last fri). Not unusual... I've never seen a shag though.

SheepAreSuper · 10/03/2012 00:23

It's crap round here...I've seen:
shed loads of magpies
some sparrows
a noisy blackbird
several seemingly overweight pigeons
a scaly tailed squirrel by some bins
super cute lambs
a man in a tree...seriously, from my office window. He was about a mile away and wearing red and I had to convince my colleagues that the drugs are still working I wasn't imagining things. I was then informed he was actually up a telegraph pole but still.

Just waiting for the swallows to come back to the garage to get terrorised by next doors friggin cat. Then it will be spring.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/03/2012 00:28

I'm seeing about 5 hares every morning this past week.
Loads of skylarks
A heron
Sparowhawks
