Dog peanut butter or low fat cheese spread? Too much fat? Are those really ok or is there something better? I did have a tube of liver paste from the pet shop but that ran out quickly and not sure that's any better for their health.

Tips please (dog is 10 so senior dog recommends appreciated)

Be careful with low fat stuff it often has sweetners like aspartamine which are poisonous for dogs. I use full fat cream cheese or good quality peanut butter, check the ingredients carefully, it should be just peanuts really. Ive got a waitrose own brand one called "100% peanuts."

I use Greek yoghurt or peanut butter - Lidl do one that is 100% peanuts.

My OAP dog has a little coconut oil (dog type), dried sprats, couple of chunks of pate (JR products) and a few drops of hemp oil. The coconut is for his coat, fish for joints and hemp oil is supposed to boost immune system.

Another vote for greek yoghurt, dog loves it 😊

for my ten year old terrier I use one sixth of a wet dog food pouch eg barking heads, or Arden Grange tasty salmon treat, or Greek yogurt or a quarter of a mashed banana or some fresh mince. I usually freeze them and serve frozen unless I’ve run out of pre-prepped ones.

greek yogurt we freeze ours in a kong

We use some of the dried kibble that is his food, soak it until soft then mash it into the Licki mat and then freeze. He loves it, it's healthy and out of his daily allowance so no weight gain. We do the same with his small kongs and he never seems to get tired of it.

Great ideas here. I'll add pumpkin puree to the list. I usually have some on hand for muffins. I take out a few spoonfuls for the licky mat.

Usually cottage cheese/yogurt/sardines but be careful of weight gain OP as at aged 10 their metabolism is slowing down. I don’t give mine every day just as occasional treat

Meat paste from a jar.
