Leaving dog the day after GA for skin biopsy

Dog needs biopsy if several
Leisons and some blood tests. We have FIL that comes and lets him out at lunch time. And usually my mum who has him for three days each week but she is on holiday.

would it be ok to leave him to FIL visit the day after a GA. He won’t but unwell, just the GA

I don’t think so, he will likely have healing wounds that need looking after

No definitely not in my book. Has your dog had a GA before OP? On each occasion my two have had to have a GA, it’s left them distressed/ confused and I would not leave them on their own. As PP mentions you won’t to be keeping an eye he can’t get to the wound as well. Hope all is well when you get the results.

No, definitely not. He needs someone with him for at least 24-48 hours.

I hope it all goes okay Flowers

Yes this is what I though too
thanks for the replies

Hi, vet nurse here,
On discharge I always advise owners that it can sometimes be well into the next day before they see their dogs 'normal ' behaviour.
Not the case for many who quickly recover but as you won't know until it happens I would plan to have someone with him.

StormGazing · 26/09/2026 08:41

definitely no from my perspective. Some dogs can take more than a few hours to get over anaesthetic, the dog will be confused as to why they’re hurting and you don’t know how the dog will react, especially if it has to wear a collar or shame

My dog would be a complete baby after having this done so it would be mean to leave him, he’d want cuddles and reassurance.

redjaffacake · 26/09/2026 12:27

I don’t even know why I thought it. He is my baby. I think I asked when I booked him in and the vet tech said he would be fine being left and checked on regularly.

but I want my mum to come and baby him a bit!

The vet tech shouldn't have said that, IMO - it's not very responsible of them.
