Has anyone's dog recovered well from vestibular disease?

My 13 year old cocker spaniel suddenly fell ill on sunday afternoon. His balance went, eyes rolling and he couldn't stand up/walk... we saw our vet 1st thing Monday who confirmed Vestibular disease, gave him some anti nausea meds and said keep him quiet for a few days/help with feeding etc. Now he's got explosive diarrhoea which has brought on a colitis flare up. He's already got a heart murmur and arthritis.

I've not slept for 2 nights as having to sleep on the sofa with him to keep him calm, and walking round the garden holding his head up last night while trying not to stand in shit was a spectacular low point. Can anyone reassure me that it gets better.......

Well 2 weeks today I thought I was losing my boy. Fast forward, and we've had a huge improvement. He's pooping normally which is such a relief, his appetite is slowly gaining, and he's so much steadier on his feet.

He had the best day yesterday, our DD's have also got dogs so he had his friends to play (a cocker and a dachshund). He got so excited he had to go on the lead for a while - his confidence is also outstripping his ability! But he had a lovely afternoon in the garden (we went for a long walk but left him here with DH which I'm glad we did as he was very tired last night).

I have a bit of a sneaky feeling that the weakness in his back legs may be a permanent feature - but we can live around that. Every single day with him now is a gift.

What a wonderful update, I'm so happy for you ❤️.

Isn't it amazing how resilient our little dogs are, that they've been able to improve so much in such a short time.

We're just approaching week 3 now and although my boy still has a head tilt I do think it's a bit better this week. He still has the occasional stumble but mostly when he's tired.

When we took him to the vet when it first happened, we honestly thought we were coming home without him, so, as you say, every day now is a gift and we're so lucky.

I'm so proud of both of our boys!
