Not harmful substance to detract dog poo?

I'm getting quite exasperated by the amount of dog poo I keep finding outisde on the pavement near our house. We live in an old style village where the doors open out onto the pavement. Thankfully, it's never been right on the doorstep, but frequently, it's just to the right as we walk out. I think it's some sort of 'dog poo' spot, and dogs like to do their business there.

I have quite a visceral reaction to dog poo which I keep in check in front of my DD, but I feel she shouldn't be opening her door to this either.

Because some grown adults can't be resposible for thier dogs, is there a non-toxic, non-harmful substance I can put on the pavement that will detract dogs from taking a dump there? I know dogs have a strong sense of smell, and maybe they are all shitting here for a particular reason?

What can I do? The council are useless. We live in a 'nice' area too.

I suppose it might help if you just thoroughly cleaned the pavement. Residual smells of dog poo and wee might make the area more of a target. Or could you put a sign up asking owners to be more considerate? That might guilt them into some sense of responsibility.

Use a solution of Jeyes fluid, dogs don’t like the smell (nor cats) and it’s harmless once it’s dried.

Thank you for this suggestion. I did manage to pick up a dry dog poo last week (in three pieces!) because I simply couldn't rest knowing it was near the house. But often it's a big wet pile, like this time, and I just can't deal with it.

I'll look into the sign, but not sure how I'll go about that. Where to put it? I don't think these sorts of dog owners would pay attention anyway.

Just checked Chat GPT and it says white vinegar on the pavement will detract dogs.

I definitely don't want to hurt the dogs but I'd like to deck the owners.

A ring doorbell or CCTV sign might make the owner pick it up.

I used to use a catering sized bottle of chilli sauce in similar situation, the sort you find in kebab shops. No idea why STBXH had it but it was fairly mild and worked pretty well.
