Car travel restraints

I'm trying to find a decent dog restraint for the car and struggling! What sort of thing is everyone using?

I suspect I'm struggling due to our awkward car.. we have a van with no bench seat, in the back is four 'armchair' seats with a walking gap through the middle all the way through.

I like the boot dividers I've seen but can't find one to fit our car. Would rather not have a dog on a seat but might be our only option. Dog is medium sized.

Best thing I've found is the Thule car crate but it's £600+!

Are you able to get a normal dog crate and use tie downs in the boot area?

To be honest, the purpose built creates are expensive because they are crash tested and have access both sides.

My (big) dogs have sleepy pod harnesses. The only crash tested harnesses that performed well on big dogs at the time.

My small breed goes in a normal crate on the seat but she is so small it fits well.

I wouldn’t put mine in the boot unless I had crash tested crates. My current car isn’t big enough for that.

I agree a good quality crate in the back is your best option. I have a dog car seat for the little one (cookerpoo) that I use for quick local journeys. But I had to teach her to stay put. So I don't think it's that safe.
