Ultrasonic Toothbrush

Has anyone used one of these? What are your thoughts or results?

Saw a vet review one on YouTube but his conclusion was 'undecided' and he just asked for results in the comments so that was less than useful.

I've had one (for my dogs!) for about 3 years now. I don't use it all the time because they're not as keen on it as the normal toothbrush but I do actually think it's good.

One of my dogs has pretty poor teeth and she had quite severe tartar when we got her. After a couple of weeks of using the ultrasonic toothbrush, chunks of the tartar were starting to flake off.

I don't think I'd buy another one if this one broke because all of our dogs are elderly now so - as terrible as this sounds! - I don't think I'd get my money's worth but I'm glad I've got it now.

It is a bit weird though when you use it because it doesn't make a sound or vibrate or anything so I struggled to trust it was working at first!

@CarrieMoonbeams thanks so much for this - might have to invest in one and see what happens! thinking it might be worth a try for interim maintenance along with brushing daily

@RunAlongDoggy I remember reading the reviews of mine and there was a steady stream of angry people saying "WASTE OF BLOODY MONEY, IT'S NOT WORKING!!!!", each one followed by a patient explanation from the company saying "It IS working, it's silent and doesn't vibrate".

So if you get one and it's the same, the only way to tell it's working is the little green light on it to say it's charged. I was sceptical at first but the results speak for themselves.

I don't know if there's others on the market now but mine is Emmi-pet.

@CarrieMoonbeams thanks so much! I've been looking at that one! If it works and doesn't vibrate, that would be perfect. One of my dogs can be easily spooked, so if I can do this without vibration, that would be a life saver!! Appreciate your help so much!

We use an Emmipet too and it's brilliant. Both of my dogs have had to have a lot of their teeth out (they're mini poodles) and the vet says they'd have lost a lot more teeth without it. It's easy to use and the dogs just get on with it.

I was thinking about mine today actually, and you know how I said in my initial post that my dogs aren't as keen on it as they are on the 'normal' toothbrush?

I realised today that it's actually the taste of the 'normal' poultry flavour toothpaste that they prefer, rather than the taste of the Emmipet paste - nothing to do with the brush itself! Duh!!

I'm sure your anxious dog will be absolutely fine with it @RunAlongDoggy , it's literally silent and doesn't vibrate at all.
