Puppy's first season, any tips?

Did you use a puppy nappy at all? She sleeps on our bed and its also carpeted upstairs so thinking of trying a puppy nappy. Downstairs is all hard floors. Ive put towels on the sofas.

Any tips?
What should we expect behaviour wise? Could her season get heavy?

My eldest's first season - she bled very lightly for the first ten days or so, but kept herself very clean. No real mess.

My youngest's first season - she bled heavily throughout the entire 20 odd days. I didn't use nappies, as I once read they could cause infections. I don't know if that's true or a common problem or not. I used blankets and throws to cover the sofas and did lots of washing. She sleeps on my bed and I threw the duvet cover away.

Behaviour wise, I don't think either of them changed much. Maybe a bit quieter than usual. The eldest was quite grumpy during her third season, so it can definitely affect them.

First season she hardly bled at all. We used towels over the carpets.

Depends on the dog really on both how heavy it is and also any behavioural changes. One of mine is always quite light and is fine temperament mine. Another is like niagara falls and thinks she's a teenager.

I used to use the proper heat pants you can get for dogs, but now I just don't bother as I (personally) didn't find them that great and I constantly had to wash them. Plus DDogs keep themselves relatively clean.

Honestly the hardest part is managing exercise whilst they're in season. I've always walked mine but it's usually v. early in the morning and v. late at night.

We had only a few small spots of blood on the floor, so there was no need for pants/nappies.

The small idiot sleeps in my bed (completely under the duvet - I'm always worried she is going to suffocate herself) so I changed my sheets every morning but it was only really necessary for 4-5 days. Luckily it was the middle of a heatwave and easy to get washing dry.

Exercise wasn't too tricky. I kept her on the lead and avoided busy areas, but continued to exercise her at the usual times. Her lovely dog walker was able to rearrange groups so he had a couple of female only slots and she got some off lead playtime in enclosed fields.

Waiting for first season here too but my friend advised putting towels down in their usual rest spots and see if they keep themselves clean. Mine is good at that day to day anyway so I am hoping her season will be the same.
