Sorry for the sad topic but I’m looking for advice about cremation as I’m sadly arranging my beloved dog to be pts at the end of the week. I’ve contacted two local companies and they haven’t got back to me yet. I can’t stop thinking about it so thought I’d may as well do some “research” while I wait for them to reply.
has anyone used any nationwide companies and had a good experience? Or bonus points if you can recommend anywhere in Staffordshire. Any other advice? I really don’t know how all of this works!

Our vet arranged it all. We got a call about 2 weeks later to collect the ashes.

I've had 2 dogs cremated and it was all done via the vet. We then went back around 2 weeks later and collected their ashes from them.

Our vet arranged it all. We got a call about 2 weeks later to collect the ashes.

We wanted someone to come to our home for the euthanasia which our vets don’t do. The vet offering the service has suggested a crematorium but they are one of the ones that haven’t replied to me yet.

Sorry as other PP our vet arranged it. Like you I would have preferred at home but it wasn’t to be so it made sense to use the one our vet recommended.

Sorry our vet arranged it, was in the midlands but don’t remember the name, and very reasonable, ashes were returned within the week (unlike dear cat, where olive now which cost twice as much!)

There’s an at-home service operating from Swadlincote. Apparently they are excellent. Very caring.

Where are you? I was very lucky to find a local family owned business to do my beloved dog’s cremation. I hope I can help.

I am so sorry that you will losing your precious animal. Legacy pets is where I used. Yes they are in Manchester but they come out to you and the most important thing for me was that my cats were not stuck in a freezer. Each pet is tucked into a little bed of their own before their cremation. I couldn’t had a more compassionate team. I also had fur clippings and paws prints done by them https://www.legacypets.com

I’m so sorry you are going through this. We had our dog pts about a month ago and, like others, the vet arranged it. We decided to go with a group cremation and didn’t get the ashes back. However, I did keep some of her hair and made a keyring that included some of her hair.

Unfortunately, our second dog has taken a sudden downturn so we may be going through it again soon. It’s horrible.

Oh God @LK2021 , that made me cry, the little paw prints 😢

@Frenchie18 , I'm so sorry you've got this sadness coming to you. I've been through it far too many times now and it doesn't get easier. I hope you're able to find a good company and that it all goes smoothly 💔

thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it looks like we’re a bit too far away to make it “worth it” but this is definitely the kind of thing I’m looking for!

I'm so sorry you're facing this.

I rehomed an elderly dog knowing I won't have her long and I still can't forget my last dog being pts.

I took my last dog to the vets. Held him. It was fast and very peaceful. The vets asked if I wanted him cremated alone and I said no, I wanted him to be with other critters. I didn't want his ashes. I just wanted him surrounded with love and not be on his own.

Not sure if that helps you but the last thing you can do is give your dog a kiss on its head, thank it for being your best friend and that's all really.

JSMill · 04/08/2026 08:59

Sorry to hear you’re having such a difficult time. I’m not near you unfortunately. Could you ask on local dog walking groups?

Molleeeee · 04/08/2026 11:51

I am so sorry you are going through this.

Dignipets will come to your house.

muddyford · 04/08/2026 13:52

Both times our vet arranged it. Very happy with the service we received.
