How can I move back upstairs after sleeping downstairs with puppy?

I have a new puppy. Have owned dogs before, but this one was extremely vocal when I went upstairs to bed which I'd never come across.
Not possible to have the dog upstairs with me, and read lots of advice, so I stayed downstairs and dog settled really well.
It's now a month on, dog settles in the crate (door open) around 10pm, wakes up around 6am. Fantastic.
But. I am still sleeping downstairs!! How am I meant to transition myself back upstairs without upsetting all the neighbours at bedtime?
Because now dog expects me to be there all night. I feel I've done this all wrong...

Nope you hae done everything right to have a happy non stressed puppy.

Start to sleep further away from the puppy. This might mean moving your temporary bed just further away from where the puppy is sleeping. Over time increase the distance until you are back in your own bed.

Putting a worn item of clothing into the crate may also help the puppy.Only if the puppy wont chew it though.

When you do get back to your bed I would try to get down to the puppy a little before 6 initially.

This is so that the dog is not barking to get your attention. If they know you will come and let them out there will be no need to bark for attention.

Gradually you can make the getting up tie a bit later

Once the puppy has settled quietly move out of the room and calmly come back. This helps them get used to the fact that you will come back. As above if you can move your bed so you are not so close although I appreciate sleeping in the hall isn’t practical!

You are making me feel better! Luckily I do have a very good camping mattress!
Will try to start shifting the bed further away, I do have a long hallway, so it is possible.
We did progress very quickly from me having my hand in the crate with her, to just being in touching distance, to being just outside touching distance so I think I was just hoping for miracles 😂
That, and then I realised it had been a month since I'd been in my bed!

And getting up before 6 isn't a problem, I'm usually awake lying there for a while too scared to move in case I set the baby raptor mode off 😂

Make sure to include a step where you are nearby but are out of view. Otherwise if the pup wakes in the night and you are not there, you may be several steps backwards again. I always cover my crates. If you aren’t this is the step is add next - while you are still close. Then start the bed withdrawal technique

I did what @Dunnocantthinkofone with mine initially, after doing what everyone else suggested and moving my bed further away I then began to cover the crate so he couldn’t see me. I did actually get to a point where he would sleep downstairs in his crate while I was in bed but then we went on holiday and he slept in bed with me and gave me a lie in so on my bed is where he has slept since 😂 but the gradual withdrawal and then the cover did work. It took me about 2 months but I could have probably done it sooner - my living room sofa is surprisingly comfortable anyway 😂
