My chihuahua has stopped jumping on the couch

She is just 3 years old. We have a very low couch and she has always jumped on and off with no issues but for the last 24 hrs she will not get on the couch herself.

To the point where she must have gotten down during the night and so has slept on the floor.

She isn't injured at all. Shes running around as normal and I have checked all her limbs, no reactions.

Should I get a ramp or step or something? Am curious to why shes stopped though?

Sorry meant to ask for a recommendation for a step or something, I have a very small living room so can't have a big ramp. Do you think something like an overturned wooden crate with carpet for grip would be ok?

She's realised ddogs need to stay off the sofa?
Or it's too hot up there...

I would make sure she hasn't hurt herself first, we got a foldable step stool for our puppy to get up on the sofa.

She could have a minor case of luxating patella (chi's are known for this) or hurt her toes/caught her claws and is tender so avoiding jumping.

Let her rest for 2-3 days - by this I mean you lift her on and off couch, and if no improvement off to Vets.

With chihuahuas you never know if it is an injury or a personality trait.

Chihuahuas should not be jumping on and off sofas. Get her a ramp or a step. I bet Amazon’s full of them.

She could definitely have an injury she's hiding - she needs to see a vet.

I feel bad that I didn't even realise this.

To be fair she had a ramp when she was small because she couldn't get on the couch and as she got older she started jumping on it like the older dogs so I eventually donated it as it was there, but she never used it.

I never considered that her breed in general should continue to use a ramp.

I will absolutely get something for her.

I really don't think she is hurt as we are sat in the garden now and she is doing absolutely zoomies and spins all over the place and jumping over the side of the doggy paddling pool.

But something has obviously changed so I will get her a ramp and keep a close eye on her.

Her sister has an appointment on Tuesday so if she has anything else come up I will give them a call and see if I can tag her on.

I hope she's okay! I have two little chihuahuas and I bought toddler steps (the ones intended to help them reach the toilet seat!). I have one next to the bed and one next to the sofa. They work perfectly and they're plastic so easy to clean!

Got these step and will nip to my local b&m as they have £1 carpet tiles for a little more grip.

It’s entirely possible it’s either a minor injury or she’s landed a bit awkwardly and scared herself.
As a precaution, I’d give her a few days of lighter exercise and prevent the zoomies for a few days if at all possible. A minor muscle strain would stop them doing thoughtful things like the sofa but once excitement builds up, the daft little twits forget themselves and charge around regardless of whether it hurts!
